Superlooper auto overdub problem/request

Hi,
I have probably misunderstood, but when enabling auto overdub my impression was that at the second click of record, SL would go straight into overdub mode effectively creating the mark end while keeping record enabled.
It seams whatever I do, it jumps to play mode. I do notice the mark end button becoming available, however I would like to use one pedal on my midi device to toggle through the same way a single button hardware looper would rather than having to programme a button for this one single click (and remember to click this button rather than moving between two buttons,)
Can this be done, am I missing something to make this work as I am wishing?

I use 2 buttons for the way I use Msuperlooper. Mark end becomes very handy to have.
I agree it doesn't work like other hardware loopers.
