I want to move a portion of an audio clip just a bit to get it in sync with the drum track. I split the larger clip, then drag the smaller portion of the clip I want to adjust to its new position on the track. The waveform moves and is in the correct position, but when I play back the track to make sure my alignment is correct the audio of the moved clip starts playing back from its original position. In other words the cursor moves across the waveform as usual during playback, but the sound I am hearing starts and ends where the moved clip was positioned originally. I'm sure I am making some Newbie mistake but I'd deeply appreciate some sage advice form you experienced members. Thanks!

Do you actually have multiple takes (clips) on top of one another, and you are moving the most recent EVEN THOUGH IT MAY BE EMPTY (leaving the original/bottom one intact)? Are you moving by holding the upper bar of the clip, or one of the icons in the middle of the clip (some of them do "unexpected" things).

Also make sure you don't have any hidden tracks in your edit that are playing back, even though you can't see them. It sounds like you've only got one track from your description of the problem but always worth checking. Go to the browser and select Tracks and check the status of each track.

One good test might be to create a new track, drag the offending clip down to it, mute the original and see if the problem follows.

There is a way to slip an audio clip, so to speak, so that you *think* you're dragging it to a new start point, but you're really shifting its recording start point. It's conceivable you could be grabbing the white square at the top of the clip rather than the clip header. This will shift the start point of the recorded audio, and if you move the clip the same distance, you could possibly create the effect you're describing.
