Infos about the global chord track ?

After searching threw the actual manual for 12, youtube channels and so on and finding nearly nothing:
- any info about the global chord track in waveform (12 pro) ?
- especially how it influences already existing midi tracks, so does it re-tune them to the chords entered in the chord track ?
I dont even no in which version it was added but in the manual for waveform 12 pro there is nearly nothing about it (for example "global chord track" simply gives no results, nothing in the table of contents).
I think I know how it works together with generating some patterns (there was an older quick video about it) to start a song but nothing else about it. I dont think it will have influence on the audio, but without any info.....

It doesn't seem to. Maybe it only affects clips that use the pattern generator. I can't find any way to get a regular MIDI clip to change when I change the global key.tatanka wrote: Fri Dec 23, 2022 5:34 pm - especially how it influences already existing midi tracks, so does it re-tune them to the chords entered in the chord track ?
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Interesting question, I just discovered that you can get audio clips to follow (monophonic) the chord track, which I might find useful sometimes. Highlight the clip, then in Loop properties select auto-pitch, Auto-pitch mode to follow chord track, set the root note, set the pitch offset to suit. I might find that good for pads or drones or fx whatever, in a creative way.
Can't see any way to get existing midi to follow the chord track, as soon as you choose pattern generator/style it seems to wipe existing notes and make new ones depending on your selection.

Thanks for your experiences. So it seemed I have not miss something but there really is no info, no tutorial, nothing about it really.
But that would be really strange if you can adjust audio to the chord track but not midi.
Hope if the tracktion guys are back from their festive days they could add some official info about it (at least when it was added, maybe something in some older user guides.....).

I don't think this is practical, since midi clips can also contaion non-chord notes. I'm satisfied with adjusting the midi clips manually. This is easy, since the notes change colour when you adjust them to the new chords. Anyway, it's best to settle on a chord progression before entering midi notes. You can use the chord generator to find a progression to your liking.

Yeah, to be clear, the chord track is super powerful for adjusting midi clips, just not preexisting imported stuff. But it is brilliant, and not that hard to figure out. So you have a looped progression using the chord track and you want to change key, or change to a minor 7th chord or and arpeggio etc, then the chord track is pretty useful. Just make sure your midi clip is set to auto update with the chord track.

Exactly this is my problemJust make sure your midi clip is set to auto update with the chord track.
The only place I could find to do that is the "follow chord track" INSIDE the pattern generator when I have generated a pattern.
When I have another midi clip imported/generated its simply not there (cause its no pattern
So is there any other place where I can do this ?

Maybe a little explanation WHY this is so important for me. There are so many great midi generators (and without wanting to be disrespectul but the pattern generator in Waveform really does not make it into the top tenI don't think this is practical, since midi clips can also contaion non-chord notes. And I dont think this so unusual cause why should Cubase and Studio One (and maybe so others I dont know) offer exactly this that ALL (can) follow the chord track ? If you want to set it up manually, fine, but for me this would really be a BIG enhancement of the workflow to have this option as basic starting point for the song creation.
Or to sum it up: and orchestra of midi generators following ONE conductor (the chord track).

Have you tried this: Activate the built-in chord generator in a track and load the whole notes preset. Then drop your chosen midi generator plugin on this track.

Thanks, this looks like an interesting idea. Hope I will found something on this.Stuttaton wrote: Thu Dec 29, 2022 12:04 pm Have you tried this: Activate the built-in chord generator in a track and load the whole notes preset. Then drop your chosen midi generator plugin on this track.
As there are so many different tools: do you refer to the chord companion or which chord generator do you mean ?
If I could save a preset with a chord progression and put this on any track this would definitely help.

Select a clip in the desired track. Then select Pattern generator - Pattern style: chords - Chord preset: whole notes.tatanka wrote: Thu Dec 29, 2022 11:04 pmThanks, this looks like an interesting idea. Ok, get what you mean. Thats the way I am using the integrated chord track with the chord/arp/bass/melody patterns, no problem with the "simple" arp/sequencers to put it behind.Stuttaton wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 3:23 pmSelect a clip in the desired track. The problems I have in mind are the generator tools like Captain plugins, Instacomp, Orb producer......that generates/uses chords theselfes for generating all kind of patterns.
So what I had in mind to just adjust these generated patterns to the chord track but there seems no way to do so. Even if I still find it strange that there is an option for (mono) audio tracks to adjust to the chord track but not for midi. I wont mind if it makes sense in each case.....
But I think in waveform no way at the moment to get both, so external generator tracks or the internal way with additional "simple" arps/sequencers....

Can't the generator tools use the chords that the Tracktion chord generator generates, as input?tatanka wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 8:25 pmOk, get what you mean. Had a bit of a mess around with this, as I haven't explored all the possibilities before. So it seems it is very top down, the chord track can write to the midi clip but instantly wipes any existing midi notes when you enable the feature. The midi that is generated in the clip can be outputted to your synth, used to trigger other midi modifying plugins, recorded to another track or by using a rack to make a midi passthrough can be used on multiple tracks at once. Which is super handy as one edit at the top can affect everything after that. Not what you want tho.
So any of your midi generators will have to go in sequence: Chord track > Clip > (your midi plugin) > vst. It would only work if they can receive external midi as a source for their patterns.

Actually, you can create a pattern preset: Select desired notes within the MIDI Clip and choose 'Create Preset'. Although you can save Bass or Chord presets only, you can use it whenever you want (arpeggios, melodies, ...). Then create an empty MIDI Clip, choose Pattern Generator, and load your preset. After that you can set it to follow your Chord Track. Just beware: during the save process, Waveform suggests the name of the new preset, but the name includes the ':' sign, which is not allowed in the name of the file (at least on Windows), thus the preset isn't created. Another fancy hidden bug
