Hi folks,
I recently started using the demo of Waveform 12 Pro and within the last few days I've received the following error message upon launching the software, for two different projects: 'The edit failed to load, it may have become corrupted. Please try and restore from a backup.'
Any ideas what's going on?

Update: I just remembered that I've had some anomalies with the external SSD that my projects are on. Having tried all sorts of technical things over the past year to no avail I just tried changed the cable and it decided to open my 'corrupted' edits. Whether or not that was the issue / fix I guess I'll know in time.

Sometimes the .tracktionedit file can become corrupted. If you know about XML (or even HTML) you could open it and see if opening and closing tags are complete. If they are not, you can attempt to complete whatever is missing, but you'll probably lose data, perhaps even a number of tracks.
If you have lost information about tracks, it is possible or even likely that audio files for those tracks is still within the project folder, in which case it's not too difficult to create new tracks to add the audio to. You will, of course, have to start from scratch with plug-ins for those tracks.
Before you attempt to edit the .tracktionedit file, make a copy of it somewhere safe in case you mess up your edits on the version in your project folder.
If you are not familiar with XML or HTML, there's a tutorial about it here: https://www.w3schools.com/xml/
As preparation for editing, I would suggest you look at a number of .tracktionedit files and make notes about the hierarchy of tags. The whole data is within <EDIT> and </EDIT> tags (the slash denotes a closing tag, and sometimes the closing is within the same tag as the opening). Within the EDIT tags are further tags, with the initial ones containing general data about your project and set-up, and then a number of TRACK sets with data about your tracks, perhaps including plug-ins and their settings, MIDI data, automation, etc.

Thanks so much for your detailed response, jabe. Unfortunately I know nothing about XML or HTML but appreciate the pointers for future reference. I'm hopeful that changing the cable on my SSD has solved the issue (and other issues that I've had over the last year or so). Time will tell. I'll check in again if the problem persists.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
