So, there is a bug in Ableton's plugin scanner at the moment whereby Ableton scans every shortcut or link to a different folder it finds in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2

It scans every file to every folder level hierarchy depth. If there is a shortcut of any kind in that folder, it then follows that shortcut as well.

So, when you guys create "VST data" shortcuts for your plugins, Ableton drops out of the above VST2 folder to ALSO scan EVERYTHING in your data paths (and you guys don't like packing your images, there are A LOT of files).

It wouldn't be so bad if Ableton Plugin Scanner exe just looked for VST2 and VST3 files, but it scans every single file. (Another apparent bug).

This all adds a lot of time to Abletons plugin scanner. Is it possible to set the data path for your plugins with some registry entry as oppose to the "VST data" shortcuts, it would make a lot more sense and then Ableton's plugin scanner wouldn't have a shortcut to follow?

Arguably this is a horrible plugin scanner bug by Ableton since version 11, but it doesn't appear that Ableton are too bothered about fixing it. Conversely, however, having shortcuts that point to the data folders rather than having a registry entry setting the data paths, probably isn't great either. Any chance we could maybe have an "option" to set it in the registry at least? Thanks chaps :tu:
