Mute stacked clips and punch in

I'm recording drums and trying to do multiple takes over the top of one another. I'm fairly new to recording in general (done some in the past, but it was in cubase on someone else's setup). When I go to listen to what I've recorded, I only want to hear the top most take on each of the tracks, but it plays them all. The cubase setup I used years ago did this seemingly by default. Is there a way to set up waveform to do this? I found this thread viewtopic.php?p=8563900&hilit=stacking#p8563900 with a similar question, but I don't see an answer and I've been going through tutorial after tutorial on youtube with no success.

I would also like to be able to do punch in recording where I hear this top most set of tracks only until the "in" point where I start recording. Instead, I continue to hear the recorded tracks while trying to record over the top. I assume once I figure out how to solve my issue above, it would likely carry over and solve this issue.

Any help for a noob would be greatly appreciated
