Has it been acted on by one of the options for stretching audio samples?
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

I've solved this one. It happened to me in Waveform 13 just now. My imported audio got stretched and slowed down. It indeed had to do with "one of the options for stretching audio samples".
The solution for me was:
Settings -> General -> Editing -> "Detect tempo of imported audio files" — uncheck this option.
You could also try unchecking an option inside the neighboring "Tempo change remapping" — "Remap audio clips", it seems relevant as well, but I haven't tried that.
I hope this helps someone, even though the thread is old. The mention of the "options for stretching " sure gave me a hint on where to dig.

This has been brought up by several users. It became default behaviour a while ago. Very annoying for many users since it's only logical to have this as a default behaviour for a specific kind of user. At the very least, the first time a user imports audio there should be a popup warning that the tempo/length of the file will be changed. Alternatively, a popup asking whether the user wants this to be default behaviour.

That's a good idea. It's only in Waveform 13 that you can 100 percent opt out of these algorithms, but I spent hours problem solving previously. It's now solvable but you need to understand what's going on in the first place. A notification would be helpful.
