You know...when you call a company to ask them about policies, I can understand not getting a completely accurate answer. Waves sells plugins. So, asking them if they're switching to subscription-only begs a binary answer of yes or no. I called last week after I received an email from Best Service stating that Waves was switching to subscription-only. I called Waves and talked to one of their staff members who has been there for decades. I was told that you will still be able to buy perpetual licenses directly from Waves but that distributors won't be able to offer them.

So, I figured I would update my WUP later, after my v14 plugins expired. Well, I just go an email from Waves with their Subscription-only plans. So, all of us with perpetual licenses can no longer update our WUPs. Ok. Got it. Did I miss an email warning perpetual license owners they will lose their ability to update their plugins after the 25th? I only received an email stating that we won't be able to register new plugins after the 26th, but not losing the ability to update after the 25th and not be able to buy perpetual licenses.

UPDATE: 3 days later...now they're retracting the changes.

They were avoiding a clear answer yesterday when asked. Non-transparency is not good. Competitors must be smiling.

Yep. Same here. Luckily for me, the only product I have from them is the Aphex Aural Exciter, as it is not emulated anywhere else, as far as I know.

If they had confidence in their new business plan, they’d give people the choice first before switching. They don’t, so they’ve just enforced it without warning, hoping enough of their captive market will roll over.

Best suggestion - near futile that it is - complain to support (please don’t take it out on the poor assistant personally). And, of course, don’t give Waves a penny ever again.

Audiothing Type B emulates the Aphex Aural B. I don't know what the Waves is modeled on nor how many variations Aphex had (A, B, C, 204, 402 ... ???). Also a Reaper one too and iZotope Ozone has an Aphex'ish exciter.

I wrote support. Not giving me an option tp update my plugins in the future is not right. I already bought all my plugins and only has to pay for WUP when I wanted to update. There should be a path for permanent license holders to upgrade their plugins. Not going to pay every month to use what I already paid for.

Nope you missed no email. Whomever you spoke with lied to you or was lied to in turn. Not a good look for a company.

I did not study law but it looks like Section 5(a) of the FTC Act is in question:

are waves based in the usa?

and now they are only selling from home base, theyre not trading in the usa either, you are now shopping in israel (iirc)

Oh well only had a few Waves things anyway - most were free or cheap and I wasn't that impressed by them to be honest so all uninstalled.

LMAO - Waves have overdone themselves this time
First WUP, then license transfer costs based on made up prices (because there was always a "sale"), up to date WUP to use plugins on two PCs, dated, barely readable plugins and now this joke :D

They probably still think they are the leaders in the industry but sorry guys, it's not 2002 anymore.

I should be angry now but they really made me laugh with this subscrption BS :)
Gotta admit I'll miss this petty, funny and greedy company

Edit: Not to mention screwed up people with active WUP

Waves has an office in the US but I do recall reading about them being founded in Israel. I just checked and Israel is in compliance with the FTC Act:
https://www.ftc.gov/policy/internationa ... consumers.

We'll see what happens. I guess someone with financial fortitude may take this to the next step. Until then, I would like them to offer an opportunity to their loyal perpetual license holders to be able to update their plugins.

On the positive note - there's no WUP anymore!
