Is there a way to drag the line of an automation envelope between two specified edit points to make a horizontal step in the line. If not, can this be added as a mouse click + a hotkey to move the line horizontaly between the two points you are clicking on?
This would obviously require the automatic creation of two more edit points to accomodate the vertical lift/drop.

Try the "Exponential 2" curve and tweak it to its low / high extreme.
Is that what you want?
FYI:
You can tweak the curve param 1 by click-drag the curve. (eg Sine Num Quarters)
You can tweak the curve param 2 by alt-click-drag the curve. (eg Sine Start Quarter)
