VSTi for 90s synth sounds?

HELP!

I'm trying to avoid buying a Roland JD-08 synth to do 90s stuff like airy meditative tracks.

If I can cover those needs with a VSTi, I can spend te rest of my budget on pizza and beer!!!

Any recommendations, or am I doomed to support Roland?

Roland Cloud has both the JD-800 and the D-50 as plugins - maybe sign up for a trial of that?

My favorite era. You'll need a Rompler. JV-1080, Triton, and SY-99 also do those sounds well.

i grow up with and love 90s euro dance to this day,but 90s syntheses are quite basic - you can use tons of free vst and to get even better result,check these:

TAL-Sampler with the Hollowsun presets as 90s music is a lot of samples and how they were played/manipulated.

Airy meditative I would put the JD-990 on top followed by the Wavestation and the hartmann neuron.

The first one can be okish with Roland Cloud with the JD-800 & JV1080 available there. The wavestation is in Korg collection even if attrocious UI, and the 4rd is shitty to use as it's so old but exists as a VST 2.1 for free.

And then: sample sample sample also. Some old libs samples played as chords to create lots of movement will get you there.

You can definitely succeed for dirt cheap without going hardware!

Firebird is 32bit and won't load in Waveform 12, waaaazh!

Cobalt looks good but ffs where do you load presets? Sucker has a massive UI and it's dark and muddy, but sounds good.

Maybe I need more coffee...

I have not tried it myself, but you should be able to load 32-bit VSTs in a 64-bit only DAW using DISTRHO Ildaeil as a bridge:

Finally figured Cobalt out, it works a bit diff than the other VSTs I have, so presets now accessible and there are some sweet ones.

If they like Firebird, maybe try Tone2's Warlock instead?

Yes, this is correct. Almost everyone used samplers back then. And don’t use any fancy stretching algorithms, the samples need to speed up and slow down as you play.
