I guess it's just an emotion, but everybody have something that trigger it and drive the entire process of desire to learn and play guitar:)
To me it was Nirvana - About A Girl (MTV Unplugged) which now sounds like absolute high school playing ,but back then it had huge impact ....probably cause i was in high school hahahaha :)
Then i realize that playing covers like these with few chords is super boring and that's why probably never learn entire song from beginning to the end hahahhaha :)
Years later first solo i learned, listening it on prima vista was Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet.
I'm just curious what makes other people to start playing - is it band you watched on tv,concert you have been to or song you had listened on radio?
So many things have changed last 25-30 years with all the digital technologies.
Is it guitar emotion still the same for you as it is to me?

Eddie Van Halen. Trying to be cool as Freshman in High School. That's what got me started.

But I caught the bug and now so many influences and thousands of hours and beloved music.

I don't know if it ever really made me cool though.

I hated guitar music, still do but I thought it would be cool to play. I started lessons at age 11.

the need to have guitar in my music and the realization that it's easier to just play it than programming it

Playing is individual thing, your soul and spirit inside your music - combination of influences and your original technique.
In my case, sometimes i write guitars first as notes ,then play ,cause sound design can create sounds physical guitar can't generate, but always play important parts myself, programm can't reproduce entire palette of dynamics, emotion and accent of original ideas, which many times are improvisations, even can't play them same way twice :):):)

I was a classically trained lead singer in bands for years before I picked up a guitar.
At first, it was mainly to more easiliy teach my bandmates the music I was writing in my head. But then, after getting good enough to play on stage, I realized all the fringe benefits I'd been missing.

Because all the other guitar players I knew were w*nkers and I needed a guitarist :-)

A little toy guitar inspired me.

And Beethoven.

Of course this was one of my first memories before all the bad.

Yo DT - Greetz from FL land!

I'm so old now I can't remember!

I do remember learning Def Leppard tracks though (Animal era), but it could well have been Marillion, and yes Mr Marr too.

It was cooler than the trombone I was playing at the time.
