Stuttering in MDrummer

Hi,
When using MDrummer I get a lot of stuttering, but not when rendering the track to a WAV. However it is causing a headache as I have to render the track to play along to the drums on guitar. No other VSTs are causing issues.
iMac 2019 (Ventura) - 32gb RAM, 1tb HDD (not SSD). The problem is improved when switching off the Multi Core mode but is still present. DAW is Mixbus 8 (not 32C).
Thanks guys and great work with MDrummer over the years... still my favourite software ever!

For me it helped to disable multi-core option, but that is on Windows. If you have the option to run mdrummer single-threaded it could be worth a try.

It’s still present when multi core mode is disabled, but better. Is there another way to run single threaded?

In Windows you can adjust the processor affinity mask to set how many cores of virtual cores may be used by a software. There may be something similar in Mac too. Usually this can be set when starting the DAW host but may also be adjusted dynamically after start.

Sometimes this happens with me too in MsoundFactory 16.09 on Windows 10 22H2 19045.3636.
When ever I have MturboReverb in MsoundFactory’s effects grid, and it’s displaying the analyser in the EQ, I get intermittent crackles and pops. This is with Multi Core on or off. MsoundFactory’s CPU utilisation always stays below 50% while playing
I have enabled the GPU in settings and the FPS set to 25 (I tried different Values, same result). I have a GTX960 with Nvidia drivers 546.01
I have a 4th gen 4 core i5.
I am putting this down to my CPU being a little geriatric, so have not contacted Melda support as it does not happen when MsoundFactory’s EQ analyser GUI is not being displayed.
(If melda responds to this thread and suggests I contact support, I will)
Note: AAS Chromophone 3 is known to be a CPU hog, but even this synth plays nice with my CPU.

Yes I’ve noticed other VSTs with similar workloads do not exhibit this issue. It’s only MDrunmer

There are some performance improvements for multicore processing in 16.10 (soon). Note that MDrummer is way more complex than anything out there, so comparing it is like apples and oranges
. Anyways we are trying hard to squeeze as much juice from the computers as possible

Excellent! I’ll get that upgrade as soon as it hits. MDrunmer is still my favourite, so the improvement is much appreciated!MeldaProduction wrote: Fri Nov 10, 2023 11:34 am There are some performance improvements for multicore processing in 16.10 (soon). If mdrummer is "way more complex than anything out there". Is there an option for people who prefer apples? I like the instrument, the sounds and the pad mode, but would be happy to give up some complexity for performance if possible.

I updated to 16.10d beta. Sadly, the intermittent clicks and pops still happens in MSF with Turboreverb and EQ analyser displaying.
As I mentioned, I am not too concerned as it does not occur when the MSF TR EQ analyser is not being displayed.

The stuttering in mDrummer for me goes away when I move the samples to an SSD. I had them on a large and fast (for magnetic) drive and nothing I could do would stop the stuttering, I would constantly get 100% CPU spikes... moving the mDrummer samples to the SSD solved it completely. I don't have this problem in any other sampler from other vendors. This is also the case for mSoundFactory when using things with lots of samples like the pianos. Not an ideal solution but it works.

I see 16.10 is released but I notice the improvements aren't in the change list?MeldaProduction wrote: Fri Nov 10, 2023 11:34 am There are some performance improvements for multicore processing in 16.10 (soon). Yes, these performance improvements are kinda in the core of things and it's not just for MDrummer, it's kinda techy.
