Season's greetings, all. I'm aware you can set the bit depth for rendering, when rendering a project, but what about the bit depth for recording, and can it be set by the user? Thank you.

Yup, in the bottom panel. Select the input and either you'll see it in the bottom controls panel, or if you have that minimised, hit the spanner icon, or hit your keyboard shortcut for 'show actions'.

Oh I see... you have to set it for each individual track? I wasn't expecting that. Thanks, @dysjoint ! I was looking for a blanket setting for all tracks (including ones not yet created). But at least the default value is 24 bits, so that's good.dysjoint wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 12:27 pm Yup, in the bottom panel. I think that if you go to Settings -> Audio Devices and choose your input channels you will get the same options and it will be sticky; that is, those settings will remain the same for anything new that you create.
Actually, it seems to be sticky even when changed within an Edit. It's a device setting, not a track setting. There is also a "Use the same properties for all devices" checkbox.

Surely there must be consensus by now...
