Is it possible to move automation points vertically or horizontially only?

I'd just like to move automation points on one axis without skewing the value on the other. In other DAWs this is done with a keyboard mouse combination.

Thanks.

You can use the value fields at the bottom left of the envelope editor.
That way you can change time or value only.

Ah, not sure how I missed that. It was in the last place I expected..., right in front of my face.

Thanks.

What are the chances of you adding the ability to drag the automation lines up and down in version 10?

What do you mean with "drag the automation lines up and down" ?
Is that about the same question as earlier?
If so what's not comfortable about using the value fields?

Post

I mean being able to drag the line between 2 points up and down. Right now you have to select the 2 points and move them. It's just not as efficient.

Dragging the line in between points bends the curve.

Post

Yes, but perhaps a mouse key combo could just drag the line value up and down. It's pretty standard in most DAWs and faster than selecting the points and dragging them up and down, especially if the points are far apart and you have to zoom in first to select them.

The modifier keys are already taken by the curve bend action, cfr https://www.mutools.com/info/M9/docs/mulab/curves.html

So to answer your initial question: Your feature request is not planned atm. Sorry.

How? You can select one line, or groups of lines, even lines that are separated by other lines you don't want to change, then precisely drag their value or time, and even change to a pencil and modify the lines between, while keeping your original set of lines selected. Seems pretty efficient to me

You tell me which requires more steps while keeping it snapped to the grid. Not too bad if you're adjusting volume automation of one section. Becomes a bigger deal when doing multiple sections.

Also, factor in that you have to open the automation clip in the editor first. Automation clips do have the advantage of being able to duplicate them but then many DAWs make it easy to duplicate automation points and values without the need for clips.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Cool illustration of your use case! BTW you can use Shift to select multiple sets of points.

That was pretty awesome.

I use this (vertical segments) a lot for staging sounds, effects, and sends during the track playback. It would be appreciated to have this.

However, most implementations of this have a semi-cluttered UI. The DAWs that I've used that have this have track-height-dependent tooling. Example: click and drag on bottom of automation lane will do range select. click and drag on top of lane will to lasso select. click and drag on line segment between two points in the middle of the lane is vertical resize. It's not the worse design or implementation but it does have a learning curve and can make things more difficult and frustrating
