Tracktion 13 - v.13.3.13, Black Screen in Bottles, Direct2D issue

Hi. I haven't used Tracktion Waveform for a while now, but after upgrading to v.13.3.13 of Tracktion Waveform, I am getting a black screen. I'm assuming this is because the GUI rendering mode is set to 'Direct 2D', by default, according to what I've seen on the forum.
I am using Bottles in Linux, and I am not able to access the settings, because of the black screen and the program silently crashes. Therefore, I cannot change the GUI rendering mode, as far as I know. The tracktion download manager, however, is working.
I have the last version of Waveform 12 to go back to, but it is significantly slow.
[not related to Bottles]: Alternatively, I have tried the Linux version of Waveform, and converting plugins to .so files with yabridge. Alongside installing realtime-privileges and doing the command, 'sudo gpasswd -a [my-user] realtime'. This all worked fine, up until I open the plugins and none of the parameters would move when I try to adjust them, making them unusable.
I think the previous version I had that worked on Bottles was v.'13.3.1', but I can't say for certain, because I don't know where the versions page is on the website anymore. Maybe it was removed?
Thank you.

the last version was 13.3.2, by slightly changing the download link you can still get any version (I don't know how long it will be available) here is a direct link to linux for the latest version
and the last one without rendering in 2d 13.2
remember that all versions (at least including 11th) use the same configuration file, if you have at least one version running, you can go to the "File Location" menu and click the big "Show Settings Folder" button at the top, then go to the "Waveform" folder and open the "Waveform.settings" file with a text editor and manually change any desired settings.

You can edit the settings directly, if you dare. I'm guessing that a Linux user should be okay in a text editor. Look for a file called Waveform.settings* and in it search for "renderEngineName" and then change the value from Direct2D to "Software Renderer". Probably. I use Windows, so maybe before you try it get another Linux user to double-check.Kiloeve wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 6:28 pm I am using Bottles in Linux, and I am not able to access the settings, because of the black screen and the program silently crashes. * I can't tell you where it's located on Linux. Ironically, you can easily find the settings folder if you can get to the Settings page in Waveform.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

That 'Direct 2D' is a very bad default, it didn't work for me in Windows either, I was about to throw this piece of software out of window but happened to find this thread and setting the value to software renderer cured the UI.

The issues with Direct2D may be hardware-related. I recently upgraded my graphics recently because so many new plugins were using a version of Direct3D that my computer wasn't able to handle. It would be worth knowing the minimum requirements for whichever version of Direct2D is being used in Waveform.

For Me changing "Direct2D" to "OpenGL" in the "Waveform.settings" fixed the problem in the Linux native version of WF13, example: <VALUE name="renderEngineName" val="OpenGL"/>Kiloeve wrote: Sun Apr 06, 2025 6:28 pm Hi.
