Greetings, I haven't used waveform with any level of consistency on win10 due to the fact the program always has annoying issues on my system. I've been having issues with the down-load manager as one problem. The manager and waveform don't seem to communicate with each other. This has been an ongoing problem in WF12-pro and 13. Waveform shows a list of downloads and products that's available, but most things are installed already and isn't listed as installed.

Clicking on any of the install options give an error message that the down load manager wasn't found at". The manager is installed and is usable in standalone but doesn't interact with Waveform at all. I've never been able to install the stems feature and it's not available for download from my account. It's only available with the manager. The manager says it's installed but it's not. Looking in the download folder as the manager downloads it... I see a file that's only there temporarily then it simply disappears without a trace. I managed to copy the file as it nearly finished downloading and it reads: Waveform_stem_separation_windows_v1.0.1_tempe63394ef.content. This file disappears from the folder, but apparently never actually installs where it's supposed to go.

Does anyone on a PC actually have stems running? Anyone knows the directory where the file should be?

I had this issue when the stems update first arrived. I contacted Tracktion support and they did some reset magic on their end. I had the same issue with Melodyne.

I remember that here on this forum several times it was commented, that a usual cause for the Tracktion Download Manager (TDM) not being in sync with Waveform (WF) could happen if TDM and WF have been installed as different users.
For instance, if the installation of one of the apps was triggered by a normal user, but for the other it was triggered by "run as administrator", then, well, the first app will search for configuration information in some subdirectory where the normal user has access to, but the second app will search for configuration information in some subdirectory where only the administrator has access to.
So, first of all you will have to make sure, that you have installed both apps, WF and TDM, as the normal user.

The STEM extension will then be installed by the TDM.
If you would start the installation from WF, then this will work the same, because WF will automatically open TDM for you, and TDM will automatically proceed. After TDM finished and you return to WF, then WF will automatically finish what WF still has to do.

I took a series of screenshots for you. The only one missing is the one at the very end, where I return to WF, and WF was doing its part of the work, but so fast, that I saw it, but wasn't fast enough to take a screenshot there.

In WF:
1_SETTINGS-Downloads.png

answer with yes:
2_SETTINGS-Downloads_Win11permission.png

during the installation:
3_DownloadManagerInAction.png

watch out for the message at the top right, only readable if you enlarge the window,
or, watch out for the message appearing when clicking on the icon looking like a link-sharing symbol, placed in the middle between the magnificatoin glass icon and the X icon shown under the blue Downloaded button:
4_DownloadManagerFinished.png
5_DownloadManagerFinished2.png

Leave the TDM and back in WF you might still see how it quickly finishes the installation, like the messages above have announced it.

Although this installed "content", required for the STEM Separation function, cannot be downloaded by other means than the TDM, you can still see from within WF where it was installed to:

look at the right side to the bottom of this screenshot:
7_PathAndManualInstallation.png

now that you know where data should have appeared, you could confirm this:
8_PathWithInstallation.png

If, for whatever reason, your TDM would be out of sync, you can manually inform to it the real situation, for instance, informing it that "I already have this version".
click on the version number of the item of interest:

To me it happened in my particular Win11 installation, that the STEM Separation was still not functional. Calling it, the result was an error message:
9_Win11runtimeComponentMissing.png
I found out that a required component in my Win11 wasn't present. This could be downloaded directly from Microsoft, installed flawlessly, and afterwards the STEM Separation was working fine.
The component is freely available from Microsoft and can be downloaded here:
https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

Let us know what you find out, up to which step things are working fine for you, and if still running into trouble, please try to describe what exactly you observe on your system. Screenshots help a lot
Good Luck!

I'd like to truly thank you talby for taking the time to give such an extensive and well detailed reply. I'm grateful. I hadn't been online in several days, so I'm just seeing your reply as of 8/11/25. I'm going to thoroughly read your suggestions, but wanted to first give a thanks. I'll give an update soon. I would like to thank ( SMsomething ) for chiming in as well!
