I have a bunch of old MIDI loops that I've had hanging around for ages, and decided to try and use them in Waveform, but Waveform won't recognize them. I tried dragging a midi file to the timeline, and also adding the folder the files are in to search, but I can't bring these MIDI files in. The files readily drop right onto the timeline in Reaper.
How do I get Waveform to recognize these MIDI loops?
Thanks.
Waveform doesn't recognize MIDI loops.

Maybe the loops types are not enabled here in settings ?

Waveform can be a bit funky with MIDI files. I have some MIDI files that Waveform won't recognize because they have a couple of line feeds (hex 0A) at the end. Once I remove those, the MIDI files work just fine in Waveform.
It also doesn't like some files I've seen where the notes (for whatever reason) start at bar 10 million or so. I had to load them in Reaper and then (after a verrrrrry long time scrolling) shortened them to be something other than impossibly stupid. After that, Waveform had no problem with them.
Just today I bought some MIDI loops that Waveform sees as being 147 bars long when they're really only 4. They loop much better when they're 4 bars. (I think they're actually 147 bars but maybe other DAWs are smart enough to ignore the 143 bars of nothing.)
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Maybe. But Waveform tends to be *really strict* with rules. Some DAWs tolerate a lot of loosey-goosey formats and coding, but not Waveform. If the authors of MIDI files and audio clips follow the rules, Waveform has no problems. But any shortcuts or sloppiness in the source file, Waveform has issues with it.pough wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 12:59 am (I think they're actually 147 bars but maybe other DAWs are smart enough to ignore the 143 bars of nothing.)
I think that's a good thing, incidentally.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.
