Is my Mac supposed to struggle this much with Diva?

Hi,

I've a M4 Pro 14 core mini with 64GB RAM.
I'm not sure if it's normal, but I have an empty Logic project with 1 instance of Diva, and it's struggling a lot, especially without multicore turned on.

I've a simple preset like this:

Is this normal?

I'm using AU version of the plugin, latest Mac OS and Logic.

Thanks

Not at all. But multicore should be off for apple silicon computers.

Any idea what could be wrong then?
And why should it be off for ARM Macs?

Because some voices will be scheduled on an efficiency core then, and that is really slow and will lead to drop outs.

The Multicore option is not a good idea on asymmetric CPUs atm, until hopefully there will be a reliable way to select performance cores. There is a hack apparently, but we haven't implemented it yet, and we're not sure as to how reliably it will work.

Okay and any idea why 1 instance of Diva is making my Mac sweat and stutter?
I've sent a support ticket as well few hours ago, don't think it's normal.

The one in the screenshot has Multicore on. This will stutter because some voices will be run on an efficiency core.

Also it seems Accuracy is on "Divine", but I'm fairly sure "Great" makes next to no audible difference here, because filter resonance is low and FilterFM is zero.

It stutters when I disable multicore though.
I've tried changing accuracy but didn't notice much change.

Maybe the skin has Multicore backwards? On is off and off is on?

Post

(in any case, I'm sure an M4 Mac should handle Diva just fine... but we have not tested the latest Mac Minis yet)

No idea, but the switch is off by default.
Just tested it again and yeah it stutters without it being on.

Changed skin to default and it stutters only with multicore on, lol.

EDIT:
Not sure anymore, it sometimes stutters whether it's on or off. :borg:

Dunno. Maybe the Stack of 6 is heavy, but I would not know why.

If you have the preset I'd be happy to try it on my M4 laptop tonight.

It certainly is an issue with Efficiency cores.

Thanks, here it is:

With stack of 3 it also seems to stutter a bit.

I just tested your preset with my mac mini pro m4 base model and I got 1 core around 60% to 65%, with some spikes to 75% cpu usage.

Logic's processing threads was setup using automatic, 8 & 12 (8 high performance cores). Same results.

Try using processing threads: 8 (8 high performance cores). I don't know how it works but maybe Logic will use only perf cores.

Maybe.
