If I got the piano roll open and select a track, it automatically zooms to fit all the notes.

Why? I don't want it to do that. :x I did not tell it to do that.

Really annoying. Searched for a long time trying to find a way to turn it off. Any help is appreciated. Currently on 6.0.5

You can't. I gave lots of feedback starting with Bitwig 6 beta 1. Multiple times, answering their questions, screenshots, writeups about why this is a problem, etc. In the end they told me they decided this way was the best and they would not be offering a way for users to disable or change it. I stopped using Bitwig.

Weird decision on their part. They already got the quick zoom fit with a double tap on a clip, doesn't make sense to me to force that on users if you simply want to access another track. :?

Thanks for reply.

Just Googled about the exact same thing, bought me here. Not a good UX for me :(
Desired behaviour? I think to keep the same zoom level (ie what I manually set) to persist for all clips.

Ed: noticed they do actually keep the set vertical zoom 🤔
Eww and maybe a bug there: clicking between scene clip -> arranger clip: keeps vertical zoom of the scene clip. Going arranger -> scene resets the vertical zoom to that of the scene clip.

To be honest I never paid attention to that, so I compared 5.3.13 and 6.0.6 now, and well, both are not perfect.
In 5.3.13 all clips are having the same zoom level. Double click auto zoom that clip and this propagates to all clips which is annoying.
In 6.0.6 auto zoom is on by default. If you zoom in, this zoom level stays for that particular clip. Probably make sense if clips are linked, no need to open other clips of that kind then. But reset zoom level for zoomed out clips is annoying too.

No, I think you might be misunderstanding how it works in 5.x. In 'Track' mode, the zoom for the Detail Editor stays at whatever you leave it at, unless you reset it by double-clicking on a clip. In 'Clip' mode, the zoom is stored and recalled per-clip.

In 6.x, you get auto-zoom in 'Track' mode no matter what you do.

My bad, I was checking only 'Clip' mode.

I find this quite annoying... I updated to 6 but I'm still using 5. It is just more consistent. I don't get why the devs are so stubborn on adding options so we can set it the way we want it. In this case in particular where the behaviour is in place since a lot of years....

I don't have an explanation, either. I also found it a bit off-putting that they specifically replied that they wouldn't be changing it or adding an option. I wish them all the best and the users of Bitwig as well, and I especially thank them for the CLAP format, but this DAW is no longer for me.

In v6.0.7 they fixed some zoom issues:
Clip zoom settings no longer reset when selecting a containing track

Post

I believe that only applies to the Detail editor when it's in "Clip" (single clip) mode, not "Track" (time selection or multi track or multi clip selection) mode. Which is an actual bug. It's good they fixed it. But most people here (like myself) were talking about multi-track/multi-clicp/time selections causing the zoom to reset, which isn't a bug, and remains true.
