The output of the soundcard ends up somewhere in the input, so you record it.
Can you outline your equipment? Like which soundcard, which drivers (asio or wdm) and how its all patched to mixer/speakers/monitors and how the guitar goes into the pc?

My guitar is plugged into pod 2.0 wich is plugged into a behringer ub502 mixer, this goes into a phase 22 soundcard, im using asio drivers. Im guessing the patching is where the problem is, since im very new to mixing gear and computers and such...
My guitar goes into the input of pod, R/L output of pod into line in 2/3 on mixer, Main out R/L goes into Input 1/2 on soundcard, Output 1/2 goes to tape in (I guess this is the problem?) I use headphones plugged into the mixer.

Yes, typical routing error. You record the main mix instead of just the guitar from the pod.
One solution is to use the "aux send" to record, if your mixer features that. Other solutions are possible but require some knowledge of the equipment.
There are some other threads here referring to the same problem, but then with vocals instead of guitar.

try taking your 1/2 output from the card into your monitor or control room inputs on the mixer. using the tape-in inputs is causing everything to be recorded.

Ok, ive tried different patchings, but i still have the same problem... depressing the "tape to mix" works but then i cant hear my guitar... my mixer doesnt have control room inputs. Could it be that my mixer is to "limited" ? heres a picture : http://www.behringer.com/UB502/index.cfm?lang=ENG

OK dokee--
-L/R of POD into 2/3 of mixer should be fine.
-Main Outs of mixer to Inputs of Soundcard... cool.
-Outputs of Soundcard would be better off going to "Tape In" of mixer. This will require a cable that terminates in RCA plugs, or a pair of adapters.
Why? Because then you can use the "Tape to Phones" for hearing -everything- that goes through your soundcard, and then do NOT press "Tape to Control Room", which means that you're only hearing what goes through the mixer, but not recording it. If you DO some recording in which you want to accomplish this, it's a button-press away.

If you've wired it up like lunch says, press tape to phones, and make sure end to end is turned on in BOTH places in Tracktion that you can turn it on
