We are happy to announce a collaboration with the NEMUS project, an ERC-funded project at the University of Bologna: a free reverb plugin modelled on the acoustics of an underground tunnel.
Bunkervik is an air-raid shelter beneath Brescia, Italy, excavated in the 1940s and now used as a space for art and performance. It consists of a gallery approximately 30 metres long. We measured it in November with sound artist Matteo Gualeni, who created the presets and whose new album, Hotel Infinito, was recorded partly inside the space.
The reverb was designed with extensive real-time spatial controls.
For the spatialisation, we used physical modelling: the impulse response is decomposed into modes, each with its own frequency and decay characteristics determined by the room. By keeping the poles fixed and interpolating only the weights, the listener can be moved along the tunnel in real time. The system also offers various LFO modulation options and head-rotation control.
Further details can be found on the NEMUS page. The project is dedicated to the numerical restoration of historical musical instruments and the preservation of historical spaces.
Core features:
- Dynamic control of the microphone position and rotation
- Aura controls for adapting the high-frequency modes
- Variable damping and Bass control
- 2 x LFOs applied through a modulation matrix
- 20 presets created by Missing Ear
- macOS Universal and Windows 11 builds
Bunkervik Reverb is a free plugin available for download from NEMUS or Physical Audio.
