I've been using Tracktion very successfully on my PC (running XP), with an Audigy soundcard (yes, I know) using ASIO4all drivers to overcome latency. It was working great!! :D

Unfortunately I've had to rebuild my PC, and I'm having trouble setting up ASIO4all. It just seems to crackle all the time.

The only significant differences in my setup are that I've installed XP/SP2, also ASIO4allV2.

I remember that when I set up ASIO4all first time, it was a bit trial and error, but it wasn't too hard. I've tried reading the ASIO4all help file, but it's all in tech speak. :help:

Can anyone help? I know this isn't a problem with Tracktion, but it's what I use to make most of my music.

ASIO4ALL v2 has a pdf in the download that sorted things out for me.

Don't forget to match Tracktion's latency setting to that in the ASIO4ALL control panel.

That's a good tip about matching latency. But I've still got trouble.

Does anyone know what sort of approach to take with the advanced settings? What should I try first? I seem to remember that the order in which you change things matters.

Any help would be appreciated.

ok, try clicking -always resample 44.1 to 48
test.
then try click -use hardware buffer.
test a few different settings.
then mess with the latency buffer until things sound clear.

At least thats what I did, but every card responds differently.

just get stuck in, I don't think you can break anything.

I also turn on 'use ASIO direct mode' in T, not sure what effect that has.

you didn't happen to check "real time priority mode" in Tracktion, did you?

Why's that?

it completely f**ks with latency on my laptop....as in snap crackle pop. also crashes ST2LE. But, ymmv.

I bought a soundblaster audigy and in xp it does pretty much the same as yours. In my case it was that the audigy card was for 98se not xp and thats the prob. I went to creative and got a specific set of drivers to use the audigy with xp and now it seems ok noise wise.
The trouble is that you have to take of all the creative stuff and use it bare bones, ie the front input panel is now useless. I have thought of ditching it and buying the emu card (the £70 one). Hope this helps

Guys

Thanks for all the info/advice.

I've got it working reasonalbly well now, although I think that it will need a bit of tweaking to cope with heavy loads.

The main problem was that I was making changes to ASIO4all outside of Tracktion. It seems that you have to be in Tracktion for the changes to take effect.

Is there a soundcard for about £70.00 that will practically eliminate latency?
