There are many options to choose from in Waveform 12. However, Waveform 14 has only the default option for "Audio buffer size." A larger buffer size can reduce CPU usage.

This is because your tools coming with your Operating System have this parameter under total control and the DAW cannot interfere easily. If you would use a different Audio Device Type, then you should get access to other options.
I am not a Windows user and therefore cannot guide you about this in more detail. But, just try it out!

You might want to try ASIO - either one specific to your audio card, or ASIO4ALL which seems to work with most cards.
larger buffer sizes may reduce CPU usage, but introduce a higher latency, which makes everything feel sluggish with MIDI keyboards or guitar effects from a live instrument.
ASIO does have (by default) a potentially unwanted side-effect, in that it deaults to exclusive use of the audio card in use - which can restrict things like using youtube while Waveform is open. (Windows audio doesn't have THAT limitation)
