Can anyone recommend what kicks for a G4, 1.25. I like BFD, but I read in a previous post that there are problems with it. I am using Sonic-Synth and the drums don't do me justice. I've been using Tracktion for about 6 weeks now and I'll never turn back!

I have Sonik Capsules Studio Drums from Sonic Reality. which includes SampleTank 2 LE. The sound quality and variety is really good for the money, it expands to like 2 gigs of samples. I think I paid 80 bucks. Their I-map mapping allows a lot of realism and nuance when playing the drums via the keyboard, much better than GM mapping, but i-map does take a little getting used to.

BFD works fine for me with:
Tracktion (of course)
WinXP Pro
Intel 2.4
1 Gig Mem
Audiophile 2496
Certainly gets my vote for best "real" drum-VST. Might not be so good if you are looking for a drum machine sound.

I've been particularly happy with Drumcore. It's not a VST, but does support rewire, loop exports and midi triggers (bitchen with the drumkat). The approach is innovative and the drummers and recordings are top notch.

How does BFD compare to DFH Superior? I own the latter and quite like it.

I hope this thread gets more attention. I'd like to know what the prevailing opinions are on drum vst's. Right now I'm demo-ing DR-008, which is nice, but too many "drumsynth" sounds for me. I'm using Sampletank Sonic Drums as well. The sound is quite nice, although not quite enough velocity detail and variation. Still, very useful. I'm steering away from BFD until the constant threads on bugs and problems die down. For the price, it shouldn't be such a pain. Am I wrong? Lastly, since I'm a dyed in the wool FL 5 user, it was nice to see the new FPC. Limited, sure, but nice sound and very pleasant to use.

Yes, some people have had bad problems. Not sure if they are just noisy or if there are lot of them?davidlinn wrote:I'm steering away from BFD until the constant threads on bugs and problems die down.
Anyway, thought I'd post and say that it works well for me, in case any Tracktioneers with a similar setup to mine were considering purchasing.

I'm quite happy with battery and rmiv for sampled drums. Battery 1 is a bit old, but great for low cpu. Battery 2 has caused problems for some people, but a lot are satisfied too. Many love idrum, but it is not vst yet, I think. Microtonic is just fantastic for synthezised drums. I'm not sure the plugins i recommend is the best for "natural drums" like bfd, DFH, etc.But I like to mess things up. For grooves, stylus rmx looks stunning.

There are so many good drumsamples out there that I stopped using drumsynth's.
Now I use EXT for all my drumtracks.
- Chord component to make my grooves or
- Sequencer if I want to layout a full drumtrack
- Audio component as beat slicer.
Easy to use and flexible.
