Every time I go to mixdown from Tracktion I get strange results. I'm trying to mixdown at 44100/32 bit, but the resulting .wav will not encode to .mp3 no matter which encoder I use (dbPowerAmp currently, LAME encoder). The LAME encoder always produces errors, and I get files with zero size or just hiss. What am I doing wrong here? I can use 24 bit, but it just doesn't sound as good in the .wav, so I know it won't sound very good in the .mp3. What do you guys mixdown to when you know you want to encode to .mp3?

Any help appreciated, I'm a bit of a noob with this app. Thanks.

MP3 format doesn't support any bitrates other than 16-bit.

Okay, thanks for that Phillishe. I was used to Cubase, where if I want to encode to mp3 it is possible directly as a mixdown option, so I never really had to deal with the bitrate.

Another question, if I might:'
Those of you that encode to mp3 after rendering out of T, what do you use? Is LAME any good? I've read around about it, but I value your opinions. Also, workflow? Render 44.1/16 bit WAV and then encode that at 192 Kbps? VBR? I know alot of these answers are out there on the web, I just wonder how some of you T users do these things.

Thanks again.

Lame is simply the best MP3 encoder IMHO.
As for bitrate (I mean MP3 bitrate here :-)) and VBR/CBR mode - it depends on your particular needs.
VBR is generally better on material which contains many pauses and fragments of different richness - i.e. speech, and maybe classical, jazz etc. For solid arrangements it's advantages ar not so clear.
Choice of bitrate is simple: more is better, but file size will be bigger. So if you plan to post your music on WWW, 128 Kbps CBR may be enough. But for your own pleasure you should encode in 326 Kbps CBR... or even in loseless format such as FLAC.

Thanks again, I appreciate the advice. :D
