Question regarding latency and overdubs...

Let's say I record a click into tracktion, then want to overdub a guitar track. I run the output of my soundcard to my mixer for monitoring, and I monitor the guitar from the mixer as well (not monitoring what's going through the computer).

The reason I would do this is because my latency is at 30 miliseconds (for example) and it is difficult for the guitar player to play perfectly on time hearing his guitar that far away from when he is actually playing it.

So now, does this mean the guitar track is going to be 30 miliseconds behind? How can I possibly avoid this? I tried figureing out my latency through tracktion (with auto-detect), but it wouldn't work. Should I just put in there, what my soundcard tells me my latency is (30 seconds), or is it already accounting for this?

The reason I ask is because I would like to increase my buffer so that I don't get pops or clicks, but need to know if I can work around the latency issue.

Thanks for any info, much appreciated.
