Beginner - Needs "First Recorded Vocal Track" Tuto

Hi there...
It's always hard to start using a new program. However simple it seems to others... Is there anyone who could write a short / simple tutorial of how one records a simple track into Tracktion?
I mean, after one has plugged in a mic to the soundcard and is ready for VOICE & GUITAR to record a "demo" or just to register an idea.
Can anyone run through the process?
... and, yes, I've been to the adbe.org but, with all due respect for their work: 1. unfinished 2. too much detail for a simple process.
If someone can get me started, I vow to sit down and write a small tutorial with what I find out, for OTHER beginners. We all need to start somewhere.
Anyone feel like sharing their knowledge?
Yours,
Thor
ps. I went and splashed out for GrooveAgent, now if only I knew how to use it with Tracktion!

Have a look at this site, it guides you through the process:

As I mentioned, although the adbe tutorials are very informative, they are incomplete and too verbose for my needs, in this case (it's great to have all that background info, though, but maybe not when one has a specific sequence of events in mind. A "barebones Guide" is what I really require to get up an running).C00kie wrote:Have a look at this site, it guides you through the process:

(Example:

"Work in progress" )
All I need is step by step instructions to record a simple audio track, while playing guitar & singing into a mic connected to the soundcard in my computer.
Any ideas?
Your,
Thor

Many thanks... The part I really needed was the first thing you mentioned: "Drag audio input to track 1" - That's what I didn't realise.valley wrote:- drag audio input to track 1.

I hope this will work out now!
Many thanks, again.

If you don't see a little icon on the left with the words "Analog In 1" (I think it's the same for all soundcards, no?) then you need to make sure your soundcard's input is enabled. Otherwise, you just point it at the track you want to record to (when you get close enough, it'll snap in place) and hit record.
If your soundcard has high latency, you will hear it played back with a significant delay. That doesn't mean it's recording at the wrong time, just playing back at the wrong time. If it gets too frustrating, just press the "Analog In" icon on the left again, and disable "end-to-end" that appears in the window below.
Alternatively, if you've HAD it set up correctly already and can't figure out why you CAN'T hear anything, don't forget to enable e-to-e in both the device (click the "Analog In" icon) and the e-to-e button in the master area in the bottom right.

Now that would be an excellent thing to have... Any clues as to where one can find it?tingle wrote:The Tracktion manual covers all the basics. These's a PDF version talked about in the forum at the moment.

Lunch Money, what you wrote up there, no that's not true.If you don't see a little icon on the left with the words "Analog In 1" (I think it's the same for all soundcards, no?) then you need to make sure your soundcard's input is enabled. Otherwise, you just point it at the track you want to record to (when you get close enough, it'll snap in place) and hit record.
Depending on how your analog inputs are configured (I'm using ASIO drivers on a SB Live card), the inputs will be labelled accordingly. For instance, my input device is labelled "KX ASIO 8/9" - not "Analog in 1".
So it all depends on what the drivers label the input, which is card and driver dependent.

From the list of filters, drag Groove Agent to an empty track. Make sure the output of the track is set to an audio output (highlight the whole track and select from the list at the bottom / middle of the screen)icelandknight wrote:ps. You then click on "Run" within Groove Agent, click "Play" in Tracktion and then "Stop" in Tracktion. This should stop GA playing and now you can start/stop GA from Tracktion
Lol
I draw the line at power tools for the under 5's.

actually you can just label the inputs to be whatever you want on the settings>devices tab. Mine used to be called Guitar 1, Guitar 2, and Mic 1-6.
Now I'm in the lurch with no real interface, I'm hoping to pick an M-Audio FW one after christmas though

Is this the item? Looks like an M-Box? Is there a difference? - I have the M-Box but have never had the time to sit down and use it. I'm too hookerd ... eh... [sorry probably a Freudian slip there (hehe)]... HOOKED, I mean, on recording directly to cassette. That's been my setup for many years. My reasoning: "Why change it if it works?" - I forsee myself still composing on cassette for some time, but I've been hoping to branch out into software because, with the additional tracks, I can start adding drums and, perhaps, bass & synth later. The drums will also help with keeping time, etc.

Thor
