:D

Saw a mag yesterday, "LinuxUser&Developer" which had Agnula DeMuDi on so I thought i'd give it a go. Cost £6
Shit, what a surprise especially as everything worked first go. It detected all the hardware and even the onboard gForce 6:1 surround sound.

The "Hydrogen" drun sequencer/pattern editor is fantastic, just been doing a track with that and zynaddsubfx, which works better on Linux.
There are loads of music stuff on it, muse and rosegarden midi sequencers, 3 or 4 modular synths, a nice analogue synth, some trackers and loads of other music apps Fx and compressors etc.

It uses the "jack" server to connect to any audio device and in anyway by the looks of it. Took me a while to suss it out though. Very low latency, got 2.7ms at 48k but then increased it to 20 odd to give me more headroom for instruments. You can use an external or on screen midi keyboard or the kwerty keys but you need to make a connection in "jack"

An easy install and put on a 10gb partition, it has a built in partition manager and also a boot loader for dual doot systems. The only problem I found was with the boot loader screen, it only gives 3 seconds to choose an operating system on boot so you need to be quick with the arrow keys to get down to windows. The last on the list. Tip, allways read what's on screen and when you get the password sreen up look at the tabs at the top. Try booting in "Flux"..and change to baroque desktop? Looks nice...

I'm now going to repartition my drive and install it proper. :) Well worth the £6 8)

So a Linux done track coming soon. :D

:D "B" :D

Very cool.
Which boot-loader does DeMuDi use, by the way? You should be able to edit the configuration and set default OS and time-out. Not sure if it can be done graphically, like in YaST.

I get the impression it uses LiLo out of the box. Not familiar with that one.
Pop music delenda est.

Yeah, I'm running DeMuDi as well, and am very happy with it. I'm fairly sure it uses grub (I can't check at the moment as I'm in my Windows partition) - there's a config file somewhere in /etc or /boot I think where you can set the timeout.

A hell of a lot of download for my 56k modem :hihi:

Just repartitioned and loaded win and DeMuDi back in with no problems, so i'm happy...:)

Yep it uses grub to as a boot loader and there is a file that i can edit.

Now just got to figure out the rest! I's a big learning curve, a new OS and new way of working.
Fun though...
Just checking in a prog called dsi, a beta? it allows vsti use in rosegarden i think. 8)

I'm running a cable modem, so no problem!

I checked out Demudi Angula Project about 10 months ago, and just installed the new version (1.2?) tonight. Install is almost automatic and hardware detection was flawless. Linux audio programs like ardour, etc are getting there fast. Not quite in the same league as the major windows and apple hosts and soft synths, but they are getting there.

It's interesting to watch the progress, if nothing else. :-)

Any links for that? My vsti investment is one thing that I would like to take and use on Linux if possible. All it takes is time! :-)

anyone with an ENVY24HT chipset get the audio to work properly?

I have both knoppix and mandrake 10.1 ...neither seem to recognize my soundcard (M-audio Revolution 7.1)

:(

would be interested in demudi if it actually works well with my soundcard...

for grub you'd want to take a look at:
/boot/grub/menu.lst
And there will be a line that looks like
timeout 5

for LILO you want:
/etc/lilo.conf
and look for a line near the top that says "timeout = #" and change that to something higher like 10.

you have to run 'lilo' from a command prompt after changes to the the configuration file. I think grub just picks it up automatically.

Is the included version of Muse 0.7 or newer? if so let us all know how the vst plugin loading goes.

It's funny, I've got a pretty good handle on most linux stuff, but I never really got anywhere pleasant for music. Messing about in JACK sure is fun though :)

VitaminD,

according to http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/in ... dio#matrix your soundcard should be supported.

hmm ill have to check this out!

I'm using a 2496 card and it auto-recognized it-no problems. Sorry! :?

Maybe try manually telling it that you have
a 2496 card? (Thats an Ice Envy24-something like that.) Good luck.

I just installed Demudi Angula 1.2 tonight.
Was mucking about with Muse, but didn't look at the version number. One way to get the latest and greatest is to go to /etc/apt/source.list and uncomment the apt-get line for the 'pool' . This has the latest Debian files.

Also, there is a site that is supposed to tell you how to use vstis in Linux:

http://www.djcj.org/LAU/ladspavst/

But right now, that has to wait till the new year! :(

This indeed sounds interesting !

There are 2 distributions:
We are providing two GNU/Linux distributions: DeMuDi, which is Debian based, and the Redhat based RehMuDi distribution.
Id like to try Whine too,
wich one shall I download please ?

Thanx
