Hi folks. I'm a guitarist using Tracktion to record my guitar tracks direct from a POD XT Pro. I need some help identifying a good Bass plugin or tool that I can use to build basslines in my backing tracks. Thanks!

Well, unfortunately I don't play bass and was really looking for something like a bass VSTi softsynth that I could program the basslines via midi....or maybe even a softsampler plugin with a decent bass soundbank.pacoz wrote:Of course the best and easiest way is to use a real bass and a DI.
The PODXT will work great for bass if you use the Tube preamp model and no cab sim.

Pick yourself up a copy of Computer Music and grab their DS404 sampler off the cover disc, it's free
There was also a couple Bass sample banks for Tractions sampler somewhere also. You could also try Plugsound Free, and take a look in the Instruments Forum.

4Front has a free bass VSTi: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/602.html
Also you can try the VB1 bass VSTi that came with another sequencer: http://murdeson.free.fr/www/fichier_vst.php?id=136

Check out Broomstick Bass, a VSTi along the lines of Virtual Guitarist (created by bassist Sven Bornemark who came up woth VG, VG EE and Groove Agent).
www.bornemark.se for info. There's a demo available and the instrument can be played either as a 'ready made' auto bass (you specify style and give it the chords from a physical keyboard or the built-in virtual keyboard). Or, you can treat it as just a huge source of multi-sampled bass sounds.
HTH,
Joey

Check out "EVM's Neutron" bass synth. it has some pretty good sounds to it. (plus it's free)

also don't forget "Elogoxa's Baxxpander". while it's not a "bass synth" it is an excellent tool for getting a really FAT bass sound...

Hope this helps you out...
Good luck.

Just slightly OT, I hope T2 allows quality transposing of audio. In Live I've been recording bass parts played on guitar, then transposing them down an octave, and I've been really happy with the results, since you get all the subtleties you miss with VSTi's in general.
That said, I have the Tau Pro and think it's a good all-around bass synth for a fair price.

I'm using the 4Front bass right now, and it sounds realistic enough even played via keyboard.
/EDIT: Just for a giggle, I thought I'd drop a Tau Bassline into a rack in parallel with the 4Front ( with Supaphaser and Crayon Filter afterwards)- holy shit, instant Bootsy!
