I have downloaded and installed Tackywrapper but how do you assign a favourite folder to the favourites buttons. I know it will be something obvious when someone points it out

Apropos Tackywrapper...

How come it won't load for me?

I created a folder in the Tracktion folder called "Tackywrapper". Now when I start that Tackywrapper.exe nothin happens.

(I guess it's just another muppet question, but anyway...)

You put the unzipped folder into the Tracktion Directory with the 3 files inside.
Tackywrapper exe
tackyhooker.dll
tackywrapper.ini
when you double click tackywrapper it fires up tracktion and appears as a button in the left hand corner of the work area. Its a really useful bit of kit.

What is it? It's modulr proving yet again that the laws of coding don't apply. Download it, love it, and try not to think too much about how it works. :hihi:

:?

seriously... how does it work? :o

it looks for the main t window... then makes tacky the parent window (stuffing T inside tacky).. then there are a few hooks to trap the close and minimize buttons. Waa-lahh.. :D

indeed.. ;)

actually, I dunno if you found the same thing as I did when learning about windows hooks, but they certainly make me look at computer security in a new light. ;)

though rootkits are far scarier on so many levels...

yeah.. I realized the degree of evil which sat right there with the hooks... I just had no idea that so much stuff could be somewhat bypassed, faked, or generally compromised on lower levels... I never dug much deeper than enough to make it work, but there is a lot of mischief that could be stirred.. I dunno much about root-kits... tho I had to install some kinda root kit thing once.. (kinda sad, I don't even remember what it was for).

I studied some of the code for a linux root kit. A diff against the standard linux kernel files it replaced was quite disturbing.

Because the kit runs as the low level kernel, it can lie about available disc space, directory contents, and hide its' own existance. The very tools you would normally use to check a system's integrity would be fundamentally compromised.

You could be running a 200GB porn server and the first you'd know of it is when your ISP jumped down your throat for excessive bandwidth usage. :-o

How can you guys do so much stuff!? I'm hardly learning to set up a blog and a phbb forum, and you are so far ahead...

Maybe that's why I am not working in computer area :D
