Library Projects????

Could someone kindly give me an example of how/why library projects are used? What I have discovered on my own thus far is that unless projects that contain sampler presets are stored in this folder, the sampler presets won't be accessible globally (for use in other projects). That seems a little odd to me so maybe I'm missing something? TIA

I always thought they're for sorting tracks you finished into an extra category...

Yup it's just as simple as that. The library folder allows you to keep projects handy that you are not actively using (like projects containing sampler presets which, as you discovered, must remain open).

also audio imported from library projects can be excluded from archives.
if you have a sample library of loops say, you can add the loops to a library project, and when you export projects the loops wont be included unless you need to.
I find this usueful when collabing over the net with my writing partner back home - it keeps file sizes manageable.
I think library projects where originally intended to do mroe than they do, but they are still useful. I'd liek to see them developed further though.

oh, and an ancient ModuLR tip:
if you do stick your sample library in a library project, you can use the search button to pull up the samples by just typing a few keywords and hitting search...

How do you "stick your sample library in a library project"? Drag all the WAV files into an edit?valley wrote:oh, and an ancient ModuLR tip:

yup. IIRC you don't need to add them to an edit or anything, just drag them into the project's item list.superstition wrote: How do you "stick your sample library in a library project"? Drag all the WAV files into an edit?
there's also an "import all material in a directory" option for projects.

oh, thats why i keep getting 'file missing' messages when i try and use sampler presets...Beno wrote:(like projects containing sampler presets which, as you discovered, must remain open).

not sure if that makes a lot of sense? surely if the preset points to the physical location of the sample files then why do you have to worry about whether the projects open?
long time since i played with it... best try it again.

But what's the sense of it? I mean, I don't know which files I'll use when I start the project.valley wrote:yup. IIRC you don't need to add them to an edit or anything, just drag them into the project's item list.
Also, why not drag the files from windows explorer in the sequencer/sampler?

I see the light! At least a little more than I did, anyway. It seems the most significant function of the Library Projects folder is as a "sample" repository. What's cool about this is the entries are just pointers to the physical files so you're not taking up more hard drive space! Once it is set up with the sounds you want it's actually more convenient than importing them from within the usual file dialogs in Traktion or Windows explorer for that matter. Here's what I did based on valley's advice:
1. I created a folder called "Samples" under my Traktion projects directory where the "sample/sounds/loops" projects will live.
2. clicked new project..., then navigated to the newly created "Samples" directory and saved it as "DrumKits". (I also deleted the default trackedit since it wasn't needed.)
3. dragged the new project into the Library Projects folder in Traktion. Selected import material/import all files in a directory, navigated to the directory where the "DrumKits" samples were and hit ok. That's it!
Now I have projects in the library with descriptive names that contain "pointers" to all the sounds I want to use on my drive. If you want to import a sound into a project you're working on, just hit "esc" to get to the project window, click on the project in the library that contains the sounds you want, select the sounds(s) you want, ctrl-c, then paste in your project or the sampler. I guess the Library Projects folder could be considered a "Favorites" folder in a way.
