HI

I know it's mostly conjecture at this point but are there any indicators about how the MIDI edit/piano roll screen will work in T2?

I only looked at T1 briefly but am wondering if the Midi edit screen will be 'fixed' in place, moveable or whatever - this is really the 'deal breaker' for me as I live in the midi edit/piano roll or so it seems!

No-one really knows anything beyond whats up on the Mackie site, and the little tantalizing hints Beno drops occasionally.

However, it is certain it has been improved.. and tbh, it wasn't that bad to begin with!

I speak as omeone whos first sequencer was Cubase on an Atari ST, and who currently earns a living programming MIDI with Cubase VST: When I first started using Tracktion the piano roll did indeed seem clunky, but I found I got used to it fairly quickly (even things like the velocity editing!) and it allows all the essential editing operations in a flexible & intuitive manner.

The things it lacks (compared to Cubase) are the time-saving functions that have grown over the years (some of which never survived the SX transition..) like the Logical editor, and specialised functions like Restrict Polyphony.. I couldn't live without these at work (where time is money  ) but when being creative at home I don't mind spending a little longer manualy trimming note lengths or start times.. its a labour of love after all, and Tracktion more than makes up for these limitations in other ways. (IMO of course).

I'm going to wait for the beta before I comment on T2, as other than a more conventional way to edit velocities (which I look forward to tbh  ) I know nothing yet.. :?

HI

I found that I had to zoom in a lot and yes this aspect wasn't very smooth - perhaps I missed out on a hint or two?

nope, just tried it, it's set markers to clip. i took a look at the shortcut keys and it's F4. so F4 and Z to zoom into a midi clip and F5 and F8 to zoom back out to your mix.
