Will we be able to download T2 or purchase from U.S.

One of the big benefits of T1 was being able to download the software off the web. With T2 now including a 2CD version of RMIV this looks unlikely (although I regularly download 4 CD Linux distros).
The main reason I ask this is that we regularly get ripped off in the U.K. with software pricing. What normally costs $199 is sold for £199 in the U.K. even with U.K. based software companies! With buying direct from the web we get the advantage of a good exchange rate and non rip off pricing coupled with no V.A.T. and import duty. The software companies still get the same revenue. If the T2 upgrade is CD only will we be forced to buy from a local vendor? I hope not as we well know that the product will likely cost £199 (almost $400) even though Raw Material is based in the U.K.
At £199 T2 would look a lot less attractive in terms of pricing and I feel a lot of people would be able to upgrade their DAW for the same price or less.

That's good but then I've got international shipping and possible duties and tax (V.A.T.). These duties are at a premium on items imported from the U.S.A. as there is a punitive import surcharge due a a trade spat between the E.U. and the U.S.
Ideally we will be able to download the T2 upgrade and get the large plugins sent on CD with the option of download for fast connections. However it is a bit of a bandwidth killer for Mackie. Anyone know Jules address. I'll pop around there with some dollars instead.

I completely agree. Here in New Zealand, have the same issue. There always seems to be a large markup from the local distributor that they try and fob off as exchange rate conversion.leeturne wrote:One of the big benefits of T1 was being able to download the software off the web. In addition, local distributors sometimes become disinterested in the reduced revenue they get from upgrade customers.
I'd be more than happy to download a couple of gigabytes, and save Mackie packaging and distribution costs...

Yes, downloadable please. We in Canada regularly get screwed pretty severely on taxes + duties at the border too.

The option for BitTorrent download would solve any bandwidth problems.floyd wrote:Yes, downloadable please.
In fact other than the (now solved
Forcing people to wait, pay international freight charges, taxes, local retail handling charges is hardly in Mackie's interests - it just reduces sales.
I guess we'll find out pretty soon what their plans are!

Well, for the US, Mackie is already here, so I don't know why things would have to be shipped overseas. I don't know about Canada, as I'm not familiar with how the border works there with the US and trade and such.
But I really can't see where if you live in the US it will be a problem at all.

Ok, this is a bit off topic but I just have to vent my frustration.
I wanted to purchase Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 and browsed over to their web page. Guess what, being a scandinavian customer, I have to pay 139.95 euro, whereas a US customer pays only 95 dollars. That's nearly twice as much. For the SAME DOWNLOAD!
It's actually slightly more expensive than what I've seen local shops charge for PSP, and that's after taxes and a considerable profit margin for the shop. And you don't know taxes before you've lived in Norway.
They're not getting my money.
Well, not yet anyway.

That's what we're saying, you can buy a product in the US produced in another country sometimes cheaper than you can in that country of production (does that make sense?).koolkeys wrote:Well, for the US, Mackie is already here, so I don't know why things would have to be shipped overseas. In rip off Britain (a commonly used name here) we really do get ripped off. In what other country would you be able to buy locally produced products (e.g. motor vehicles) significantly cheaper in other countries. Ironically I could buy some British made products cheaper in South Africa than in the U.K.
That brings up another point. The local distributors blame import duties, transport, oil prices (honestly) and the state of the cosmos for the expensive prices. In South Africa we had a volatile exchange rate (it could fluctuate up to 15% a day), punitive import tariffs and V.A.T. Yet I could buy Roland and Korg equipment, in fact most musical instruments, at least 15% cheaper than in the U.K. My friend has just bought a Takamine guitar online from the U.S. After paying freight, duties and V.A.T. he's still saved £400 (+-$750) over the cheapest price he can get here in the U.K.
Back to the original post, I bought T1 firstly to use but also to take advantage of the upgrade path. I don't want to be penalised because I'm outside of the US.
Come on Mackie and break the mould. Don't do a Steinberg who ony let you buy from their U.S. and German sites if you're a resident of those countries thereby giving their international distributors carte blanche to charge their ridiculous markups.

Oh here's another good one. Apple charge 15% more for iTune downloads in th U.K. than in other E.U. countries.
They've now been reported to the EU (as though that will make s difference, Bill Gates had to give his pocket money up for a week). One download service with different pricing for different coutries, they just know that here people expect to pay more. What crap!!

US drugs are cheaper overseas. There's a huge movement to reimport them, but drug companies are fighting it all the way.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hmmm, if there's a downloadable option I hope there's a 'minimal' install version without the 'extra' plugins (I already own RMIV), as I'm on poor old dial-up

Probably the same drug companies that fought the South African government when they wanted to start producing and distributing generic HIV retroviral treatments. The social conscience of drug companies is staggering by it's ommission.
Also you'll find that in the US as in South Africa the use of private health insurance gives a mandate for drug companies to charge what they want as most of the costs are claimed from medical insurance.
