Last night my pal Try wanted to come over and do some guitar work and told me he'd like me to 'record him from start to finish' because the noodling shouldn't be ignored. For some reason, I remember someone mentioning using Adobe Audition and Tracktion together so I boot up Cool Edit 2000 (yes, I am old school) and set it to use the 3rd and 4th inputs and outputs of my Aardvark LX6. Then open Tracktion and set it to use the 1st and 2nd inputs

I cross my fingers... hit 'record' in CE2K and 'play' in Tracktion and boom, they work fine... and with the way the Aardvark handles monitoring, we can both hear what we're doing with un-noticible latency.

Suffice to say, last night I was tweaking and working on a 4 measure drum loop and Try recorded guitar for an hour - all without a single hiccup.

Now I'm damn near drowning in guitar played (decently close) to set tempos that I can cut up and f**k up.

It rocked. :band:

Woo Hoo!

Good to hear. Speaking of Audition... I just discovered yesterday that I probably qualify for an educational discount. :o I'm a-thinkin'....

Wow, and I thought I was all that rewiring FL studio into AA, nice work!

I dont understand still.. You recorded tracktion playing into cool edit? Why would you even need to do that?

Heh explain :)

Post

Why? E.g. let Tracktion play a drum loop...

Post

I don't understand either (but want to :)
You can play a drumloop and record guitar over it in audition.
Do you mean it's not possible to punch in / make loop recording in audition?

music has become meaningless...we just keep doing it

i would imagine that he means that it can be recording the whole time whilst he's doing other stuff in T.

T can only record when it's recording... which means that the cursor can't be moved, and other parts can't be played at will, because it's recording and you can't just do other rearrangements and things while it's recording!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Best of what worlds? I´d like to know. :)

Last night I recorded in AA and Tracktion at the same time just to do a lil comparison. I like working in Tracktion much more for multitracking. Dealing with fx plugins in AA is just not getting it for me any more since I got into Tracktion.

I still don't understand. You could just make a drum loop in T1 and drag it out to like 35 minutes and then record the guitar.... I don't get it.

If you were doing other things like say with midi, you could record that in T1 as well... No idea why you would want to use cool edit 2k to record it... If I'm not mistaken CE2k only can record a single stereo track, not multitrack. .... Weird.

I think the whole point of the exercise was to have a complete recording of everything that occured. Didn't you ever have a tapedeck running all the time through a rehersal or something to capture a spontaneous 'moment' that couldn't be repeated?

I don't want to think about Ron's "spontaneous moments" thanks..

:-o

yeah but ron you're completely ignoring what's been said - you can't actually WORK with tracktion when it's recording. you can't move shit around and make edits and things and do other things. you'd have to stop recording to be able to do things like that. which means that the guitar would no longer be recorded. it makes perfect sense.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
