It's ok. But to answer your question, and if you're talking about drums, then no, it's not always necessary. But some hardware and even some software default the drums to channel 10. But you can usually change this. The real channel is up to you.

I figured it out. The MIDI clip in Tracktion had been assigned to channel 10 which I hadn't realized since I thought it was an energyXT problem.
However, I do have a new problem. What I am trying to do is configure my Evolution UC-16 and UC-33e to work with my VSTi's. I have split every MIDI channel up to cover the 25 banks on the UC-16 and the 33 banks on the UC-33e by assigning unique CC numbers on each. I am running all my VSTi's through energyXT so that I can save the energyXT files and use them in any host of my choosing (should I so desire). I attach a MIDI Channel module to the VSTi that will read only one specific channel (say channel 6). Everything works fine when using energyXT as a standalone. And by fine I mean that the VSTi will recieve data only from channel 6 and if I switch to say channel 3 and assign a knob with the same exact CC it will remain unaffected. However, once I load up energyXT within Tracktion, it doesn't matter what channel it's on: it reads all the CC data the same. So if I set the VSTi to receive data from only channel 6, it can still be affected by the same CC on another channel. This is starting to drive me nuts. Am I missing some sort of global channel setting on Tracktion?
