So i have some vocal clips recorded in stereo of course
and im trying to pan one to left and the other right and no matter if i pick the actual clip and change the pan on that or automate the pan on the actual channel it doesn't do anything, its still coming out stereo. Not sure if its a bug or im just plain stupid. Any help would rule. thanks. :)

Don't quite understand you.. panning a stereo clip should work like a balance control.. is that not happening?

If you need to treat the left and right channels seperately, copy the clip, select one copy, and turn off the right channel in the "active channels" field. Then do the opposite with the other.

Or is that not what you mean? :?

Are you trying to pan exactly the same clip of audio on two tracks, one to the left and to the right?

If so, then the two tracks will effectively cancel each other out and the signal will still sound like it is coming from the middle.

If you want vocals to sound stereo, you can either delay one track slightly and then pan left and right or you can get two different takes of the singer singing the same line and then pan them left and right.

Hope this helps!

You say "stereo, of course"... so I'm wondering... did you use 2 microphones, or a stereo mic?

If not then that clip is mono. It may look stereo as it has 2 waves, but they are identical and will already be panned left/right. It will sound centered.

If you copy the clip and pan one right and the other left it will sound the same.

What exactly is the sound or effect you are trying to achieve?

Hmm the mic is a crappy samson q mic, and i was just looking at some of the files we recorded and they don't look true stereo, its like you said mono copied twice or whatever, guess thats why there is no difference. weird, i thought all mics were automatically stereo.

Nope, they're all mono except a few exceptions which are really two mics in the same body.
