Setting Latency

Okay, I've been using Tracktion for nigh on two years now and this has only just occurred to me...

What relation does the latency setting from the settings window bear with the latency setting in the device's control panel? Changing one doesn't seem to update the other, so what happens? Is the one in the control panel overriden by what is set on the Tracktion settings page, or vice-versa, or do both need to be set the same?

(New soundcard sounds great, BTW, even through the cheap crap speakers it's currently wired to - like someone lifted a blanket from the speakers!)

You my need to press "restsrt device" to get the two to match.. what's your new card then?

Post

Even after pressing restart they don't appear to match. It was the same on the old card, but I never really paid it much attention until now.

New card is Emu 0404, compared to the previous card which was a 8738 card with optical daughterboard and DiO2448 drivers. The two hardly compare! (Unless the comparison is "compare this good card with this shit one"!)

When I had a lot of trouble with ASIO4ALL, I discovered that you have to make the latency changes in the device panel while you are in Tracktion. Presumably the values are stored separately to those used outside of T.

Hope that helps.

Not all drivers will allow you to communicate with the device through Tracktion's control. In some cases, you will need to close Tracktion, set your latency in your device control panel, restart Tracktion, and the values SHOULD match at that point in time.
