Why is timestretch so important for you people?

I don't get it. Why are you guys so upset about timestretch? Does everyone want to use loops or something? I just don't get it. Tell us why you want timestretch so bad!

It's a tool that adds options to your toolbox. It doesn't even need to be about loops, a good timestretch can be used to allow you to change the tempo of a song after recording vocals or guitar parts if you need to. It just adds flexibility. A host nowadays without a good timestretch is like a toolbox without a hammer.

Ahh i understand definately now. Especially with the changing tempo thing. Apparently it's in the making though, so we'll be okay. For all we know, it could be a release surprise, right? Maybe thats why there's a delay.

nothing wrong with a good timestretch. I create loops and mangle them often with a timestretch... a lot of times it adds artifacts that I want... then add some effects on top, then compress it back to it's original length. All sorts of uses... it just depends on what you do with your music. Probably part of the reason that I actually find the current timestretch useful.. cos it gets all phasey. However, it'd be nice to have a hi-quality timestretch as well...
but not before automation clips and folder tracks of course... bwahahah!

That would be a very pleasant surprise. One that would get me reaching for my checkbook.rpc9943 wrote:For all we know, it could be a release surprise, right? Maybe thats why there's a delay.

No, more like subgroups so you can have nested groups of track. Makes a big arrangement much more tidy and manageable.rpc9943 wrote:folder tracks? You mean loop recording?

Nope, not in T2, but a big feature request. Lots of people would like this.rpc9943 wrote:wait is this going to be in T2? I dont get it. If it is, I'm going to be pretty excited!

Yeah, it tends to be something more for loopers. I do straight track-by-track recording, and when something's off, I re-record it. I'm not a big "fix it in the mix" kind of guy. So timestretch really does nothing for me.rpc9943 wrote:I don't get it. Why are you guys so upset about timestretch? Does everyone want to use loops or something? I just don't get it. Pro: You hire a session musician to come in per hour and lay down some tracks, hire some back-up vocalists as well. Maybe a Bass player. A drummer would be a big deal. Any one of these. Then a week later you want to gradually increase/decrease parts of the song. Without decent timestretch you would have to pay them twice. Of course if you are a pro you probably own other tools to do this, but it would be nice to have it all in T.
Me: My 2 year old son wanders into my 'studio' and wants to sing, so record him singing something at 90 BPM, just randomly. Later I want to use this in a tune @110 BPM. T won't let me do this, but it would with decent timestretching will. Live for instance is super simple in this regard, dealing with audio is incredibly easy (though I would hope T's eventual implementation of a new algorithm is better than Live's).

Aye there's the rub, midi and really clean or really dirty audio seems to stretch ok, usually. But if there's an expression, breath, bit of vibrato - it makes squonky farting noises if you go more than +/- 10 bpm.braj wrote:though I would hope T's eventual implementation of a new algorithm is better than Live's.
