I must admit that I've chosen Tracktion because of simplicity. Yes, there are some limitations, but in this chief respect it still seems like the best choice.
I have only real experience with Samplitude and very limited with others (Cubase, Sonar etc.).
If price difference forgotten for the moment, is there any other solution that could be recommended in terms to have simple, intuitive interface and maybe more usable features than Tracktion?
Thanks for inputs.

Don't forget that your music might eventually outlive you.

The only software that competes w/Tracktion for simplicity and power is Live. It is especially suitable for people interested in groove oriented "loopy" music and folks looking to build up arrangements through improvisation. For people working linearly or for whom composition is less free-form I don't know of any competition to Tracktion although I've never tried Saw Studio or Nuendo... Detail: Live's "warping" feature is quite severely sonically degrading, which is groovy if fidelity is not one of your concerns...

Regardless of price, I'll use what I currently use: the mighty Tracktion+EnergyXT combo, with ERA as the resident MIDI editor in both.
I would have said it can't get any better, but in fact it does (with Jorgen coding like a madman and T2 on the horizon).

ditto. i don't need any other host with my T,eXT&Reaktor combo. and with T2- QT support! that's the next step i was going to look for and it's coming to T so still no need to branch outwards
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Actually, it's not that bad, not quite as bad as, say, Tracktion's timestretchsemiquaver wrote:The only software that competes w/Tracktion for simplicity and power is Live. If I have no money constraints, it would be Live4 on the most powerful system I could find with Audition as a Wav editor to smooth out any of Live's timestretch shortcomings. Mackie Control and all the best plugins as well. Biggest, highest resolution monitor available. On a space ship heading for a heavenly planet.

I seriously think SX/Nuendo version 3 is rather powerfull... but most of it kiks in if you are into heavy post production... I have been using Tracktion for a few heavy productions now (full band and stuff). I dont think i miss anything. In fact the last i went to work with Cubase, the mixer freaking started irritating me!!
I have had this strange problem with T today though.. talk bout it inanother thread.

spacefox, would you mind describing in a bit more detail how you do this? Are you using the energyxt sequencer? or are you just using the energyXTE VST for FX routing within Tracktion?spacefox wrote:Regardless of price, I'll use what I currently use: the mighty Tracktion+EnergyXT combo, with ERA as the resident MIDI editor in both.

Hi swivel, sorry it took me that long to reply. Must have missed your post.
I am (currently) not using the EXT sequencer at all. EnergyXT is for me a musical playground - the fastest and easiest way to test and experiment. It is my go-to software whenever I want to check out a new plugin, make a quick beat/ melody or just play around a bit.
It is also what I use to do all manners of crazy wirings, so when I'm feeling more experimental I tend to go XT.
Finally, it is for me the ideal software for performing live, and I haven't even tried the new performance playlist jorgen made (using 1.29 stable)
Basically, I use EnergyXT as a meta-instrument more than as a sequencer. This is were the brainstorming part of making music happens.
Tracktion comes in when I need to control the chaos a bits. It is all I use for arrangement and mixing. This is where ideas are refined (or discarded), where elements are added to the track and where things are tweaked, polished, trimmed and tamed.
This is done by inserting a VST/i version of EnergyXT into a track in Tracktion, and either disassembling the structure I have in XT into different tracks in T or rendering the output from XT. The XT files remains in the T project o a muted track, in case I want to go back to the original ideas, re-perform anything etc.
