I'm new so my departure will have no impact; I guess I'm gonna have to bail on Tracktion. I, to, need just a couple of things that T2 didn't cover, and while there's a (lousy?) workaround for one (http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81563), nobody seems to know how to do the other (http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81561).

I've enjoyed the forum, and I like about 80% of Tracktion ( I like that 80% a lot too), sadly it doesn't streamline my particular work flow.

I'm not sure where I'm goin' from here, leaning toward Sonar (as a Cakewalk user I hope for a shallow learning curve), and any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for being welcoming and keep up the excellent forum knowledge exchange.

Semiquaver, feel free to stick your tongue out at me!

MIDI channel per track is easy to do with a 3rd party plug.. you on mac or pc?

Hi Jaz, all

I don't understand the difficulty re MIDI : clips can be set to send on particular midi channels and then either layered on a track assigned to one MIDI ouput port or routed to a track sending through that port. Does that make sense

(i'm not using any outboard MIDI gear so can't test....)

(and I am keeping my toungue to myself!)

Sorry to see you go Jaz. Catch you 'round the planet.

Thanks for getting back (and not giving up on me  )...

PC.
...layered on a track assigned to one MIDI ouput port or routed to a track sending through that port.
Well...sort of. If I send it to a port, I still need to distinguish each track to a MIDI channel becuase that port sends to a multi-timberal synth....where (I'm sure you already know) the voices are separated by channels.

So are you saying that I should make a Track that has one empty clip pointed to a specific Channel, and then make another track full of music/Patch change MIDI data output to the "channel only" track? So I'd need 16 tracks per MIDI Port (32 in my case) that do nothing but filter onto the proper channel. ....Or I could just enter the channel on every clip of a given track....i guess that's not the end of the world.

I guess I get that...seems like I should be able to type a damn channel number into a track & have all the info on that track (regardless of its "clip" channel) be routed to the MIDI output on the selected channel!!! :tantrum:

I'm still at a loss as to the best way to get my patch data "sent" to my synths. I'm having a really hard time beleiving I'm the only friggin guy who needs this! Do the rest of you spin the knobs onthe front of your synths before every song?

Semiquaver, I LOVE it when you try to help....GOD you're so HOT right now :hihi:

Thanks Fox.... I appreciate this forum a bunch, its the darn program I can't get right with.

Its not too bad I hope - just click the "select all clips" button and change the midi channel once. and you're done.

Its actually kind of neat-o that you can have clips that send to different channels imo - you can have like a "percussion bits" track that sends isolated clips to different parts of a multi-timbral synth or different synths entirely - could save a lot of space. So you're grouping by function rather then channel, which is flexible and neat.

just click the "select all clips" button
Ah.....Select all clips. Ok. I'll buy that one.

Now if I can get over the "no patch names" hump, I might stick around after all.

I'll screw around with it again...

Select one clip: <cntrl>A will select all other clips on the same track, pressing it again selects all clips in the edit.

Can you use the "midi filter" option to select the channel you want a track to output too (but unclick all the channels you don't want)??????

Hmmm...I guess not, I guess the "midi filter" determines the incoming channel, not the outgoing one??

Grab this guy's MIDI plugs and drop a MIDIChanneliser onto each track. :)

Yea, I'm at a loss.........I don't know what to do at this point.........I guess it's (gulp........yuck) back to sonar............ick.

Ok...I'm REALLY TRYIN' HERE..... :bang:

I got the channeliser, dropped it in a track, clicked it...I get to enter a channel number. YAY!

Now, I'm trying to get 2 kinds of CC midi events in. CC 0 is Coarse Bank and CC 32 is Fine Bank. You send those first, then a program number and voila, your multi-timberal synth gets the patch du-Jour on the channel in the filter Plug-in.

Strategy:
I'll get a track set up with 2 different CC's and make that track a destination...

One problem....the second clip's CC changes the first Clips contents. That is, I make a clip, enter a CC 0 event, set it to value=84.
Make a new clip on this track...or a new clip on another track, for that matter...enter a CC 32 ....and it changes the first clip's CC to 32. The 2 clips can't seem to contain separate/different CC events.

While I wait for somebody to explain to me how to get 2 separate CC values in 2 clips, I'll be in T2 searching for a "Clip-unsync" button or a "Just DO WHAT I #&CKING TELL YOU TO" button.

Do I sound frustrated? :tantrum:

I REALLY do want this to work...I had given up, but since you all have thrown me a line, I'll continue trying til I buy something else or MY HEAD EXPLODES!

You're the only person I know of who has ever tried using Tracktion's MIDI in this way. ;) I don't speak for anyone here, especially not RMS or Jules, but only for myself-- you are trying to do some stuff that most of us never conceive of, probably Jules included as I understand he's a primarily audio and not MIDI-based musician himself.

Hope there's a solution, because Tracktion-land is a wonderful place to be. ;)

the value you originally set should still be there, it's just visually changing it to cc#32. The events are seperate. If you look in the midi-cc menu (under type), any active-cc will be colored green. You should see two entries in green.. one for cc#0, and the other for cc#32.. indicating that they have values set. Does that help?
