Rack Presets?

Hey, I'm not sure if this has been requested before, and if it has where is it, and if it hasn't, why hasn't it?
eg. multiple synths in a rack, one doing fat bass, one doing fat brass, one silent - rack preset called 'Fat bass and brass'.
I suppose it's just the idea of storing the current presets of the rack in aNOTHer file..
maybe it's a bit too far, but I'd find it handy.
would you?

Everyone has different setup, plugins, vst folder locations. I am not sure if this would work. Maybe preset routing setups?

i'm not sure I understand the request[1]?
If you want to mive rack filters between usersm you can simply export an edit with them in.
If you save the rack as a preset, then create an empty edit and use the rack - anyone who imports that edit will have access to the rack.
Or am I completely failing to get the question?
[1] bear with me, I was up until *far* too late last night trying to crash learn Java and the JAI stuff, and I'm pretty dopey today.

the idea is to build up a library of racks complete with settings for the included filters - CBao had in mind synth presets but why not the whole kit and kaboodle.

If the presets only used the plugins that come with Tracktion then all would be fine. A cool idea indeed.

it should be doable - after all a track with its attendant filters (and all of their settings) can be copied to the clipboard and pasted into another project - all thats needed is to store some of the same info as files...

if you export a rack any filters contained in it *will* maintain their patches. Try it!
Exporting edits is a perfectly good way of sharing racks.

so where are they?
(seriously, a sticky for rack presets could be nice. I'd like to see how people use them, I haven't really got into them myself...eXT is as modular as I've dared to go)

pakana, take a look at the reference manual - the rack chapter describes creating a simple rack (a stereo delay IIRC) - it should get you on the right track with them,

I hope pakana doesn't think Rack Presets already exist!
Sharing Racks was never part of the plan - we'd all need the same set of plugins..
semiquaver's got the idea - and sounds pretty positive about it too! The thing is, I requested a function for Plogue Bidule (replace command uses 'replaced' objects parameters where relevant) which uses similar information to this request, and it was turned down because the function would have to deal with VSTs of differing levels of quality/stability which introduces problems, so I'm having my doubts about it.
Anyway, I'm no programmer - I just make change requests.
What's the likelihood this one will come to fruition?
Add the fact that I lost my system disk recently, which had a PILE of Racks on it, and I find the racks do not present themselves outside Tracktion. If I could have copied the currently-non-existent Rack folder to my data drive I would not have lost them all.
Is that also a reasonable request to make?

cinningbao, you CAN share racks and it's not a problem, and it's been present since T1. you can export racks simply by having them present in an edit. so just make a RackFilters edit and put all your rackpresets in there. the rackfilter presets are stored in an xml settings file, which you can copy and save if you want, but you can just put them in an edit and share that. it is fully functional. there are no problems with this method.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Hi Haydn, Valley - I still don't get it: where are the xml settings files? I see only .trkedit files.
so suppose here I am working away on an edit and I want to reach for my rack favorite syth rack. what should be my procedure?

semi, pm me an email addy and I'll send you a test rack in an archive.
I'll use an MDA plug, just to show how it all works.

you just cant add presets of the different settings you make for that rack (unless you save it as a seperate rack preset)
EG: make a rack, save it as a rack preset, load it when needed!!
racks do! have presets!! its just the rack presets don't have presets
