Recording output of Jamstix in Tracktion

Hi all,

I'm using Jamstix to create drum tracks for my pre-recorded songs.
I import the wav file, route that to Jamstix and have got a nice drum arrangement set up.

I can't work out how to record it though!!!!

If I try to render the track that Jamstix is on Tracktion says that "there aren't any clips in these tracks to render"

If I render the whole project then I get the original wav included with the drums.

I have th kick and snare routed to separate tracks in Tracktion and the rest of the drums to another track.
I would like to create 3 wav files from these 3 tracks but can't for the life of me work out how to do it...

Hello fellow Sydney-sider.
Probably the easiest route for you would be to export the MIDI file from JamStix.
Go to the end of your song in Tracktion (make sure the bar value matches in JamStix) now go to the Arrangement tab and click on "Export MIDI file".
You can import this into Tracktion and use as required.

Problem with this is that the midi file doesn't contain the improvisations or nuances that the audio output of Jamstix does.
The midi output sounds like any other drum machine/plugin...

Surely there is some way to record the output of Jamstix with Tracktion...?

I can do it easily with n-Track (just do a mixdown and route each output of Jamstix to a separate output in n-Track - but Tracktion doesn't seem to be able to render or mixdown the soundcard outputs separately...) but Jamstix seems more stable in Tracktion than n-Track

Hmmm. Wasn't sure about this, but just tested this and mine does.

I tried creating and changing a 4 bar arrangement - including the "reset choices" on a few bars/fills. Then exported each time and imported back into Tracktion.

Dropped the MIDI file into a BFD track and it worked fine each time... note-for-note what JamStix played when I listened to it?

Ahhh, yes your right. Some of the drum hits are missing!
Seems I needed a longer section to test because it looks like the snare and tom accents don't get included?
Probably worth checking over at rayzoon to confirm exactly what gets included/excluded from the export... and why?

I think the general pattern gets exported but the improvised stuff doesn't.

Anyway, surely there is a way to record/render/mixdown the output of Jamstix in Tracktion?

Is there a way to do a mixdown or render of each souncard output separately?

Pädy had a work around posted somewhere hereabouts for recording Groove Agent output as midi back into T. I'm sure the issue is basically the same. Maybe a search on GA will find it?

As far as I remember, Voxengo has a free plug in (Recorder), which allows you to record each track seperately into a wav file.

hmmm I looked at that recorder plugin.
Pretty clumsy solution...
You have to hit record on the plugin, then press play in Tracktion.
It would be good if the plugin coupld be set to start recording when you hit play in Tracktion.

At the resulting wav file won't line up with the tracktion project. You have to manually slide it around until it it is in sync...

Also to record multi outputs you have to hit record on the 3 instances of the recorder plugin then hit play...

With all the amazing routing options I keep hearing about that Jamstix has surely there is a way to route the output of 1 track to record to a new track???

You could bus your JamStix tracks to a new track and drop LiveSync Recorder Free (LSR Free) on it...like Recorder, but with the added benefit of auto-sync recording up to two bars (if you need more, you could cheat and divide the project tempo temporarily).

If you wanted discreet audio tracks for each drum channel, you can drop an instance of LSR Free on each one without having to worry about activating them all at once as the tempo sync seems to be automated to a buffer until you decide to export to WAV.

Actually, I think the routing issue is a Tracktion problem.

I have noticed that some people use http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http:// ... /myoke.htm to capture the midi output of a track.

But really JamStix should export ALL midi data, not just a subset. Not sure whether this is a bug, or whether there is some reason why this is hard to do in JamStix.

I don't know Jamstix, but the usual solution to that warning is to insert an empty MIDI clip on the track you wish to render. (Select the track and press "G")

Glory Hallelujia - that helpe w/my melodyne problem also - now I just have to figure how to get my tweaks as cc data from T into M and I'm good to go but that is a great help.

You may need to add a "dummy" event at the end of the track so Tracktion decides to render the track.

Tried inserting the empty midi clip into the track with Jamstix on it and it just rendered a blank wav file....

Also I had a look at that Live sync Recorder but it only records 2 bars... which isn't really very useful for me.
Would be OK if I was looking to capture a 2 bar sample but this is a 3 or 4 minute drum track...

Does anyone here that uses Jamstix actually manage to capture/record the audio output of it?
If so how?
