FR: Text based markers and an easy way to navigate to them

While I like the numerical song position markers, wouldn't it be cool to be able to label them according to what they actually are, eg. 'verse 1', 'bridge', 'funky breakdown', etc.?

And of course with that, the ability to easily navigate/choose them from perhaps a pick-list?

And like my old Ensoniq ESQ-1 sequencer, a way to construct a song out of chaining these sections together?

Please discuss for inclusion into Haydxn's FR post.

You're right. That is such an obvious thing I thought it would be done without mentioning it... I was wrong.
I would gladly trade it for both the color editor and the colored midi notes (which would have been useful if they were by class, and not individual note, by the way: you know, like the strings on harp, one color for all c's, etc.)

I will 'third' that one also, along with more than 10 markers (that is th limit at hte mo i believe?)

numbers and titles could be combined ie 1. bridge etc

clueless,

Bingo - See I got my T1 license in August of 2004, after this thread had died - I didn't think to do a search on 'Arranging' though that's what it is.

I like the mockup screenshots, very cool.

Yes, let's have these features please.

This feature is essential (and expected)imo.

Ive wanted this in a sequencer FOREVER! Seems like it would be a natural for Tracktion.

Lets hope this in in 2.x version??

While experimenting with my controller, I stumbled upon a button that I assume is meant to skip through markers. A message in T2 pops up that says "Marker mode not yet implemented!" (or something to that effect). From this, I assume we will be seeing this option in a future release. I agree, it's much needed!

tabbing from marker to marker is nice (i recommend the Tab key!)

Seconded

It's been in most of them for ages already. (At least Vegas, Sonar, and Pro Tools...)

I just make a track at the top of the screen, where I put in empty midi clips labeled intro, verse chorus etc. Works good enough for me.

I think the Vegas way for marker is the best. Shortcut is "M", if you don't name it an incremental number is used as default name (from 1 to 999 I think), but you can also name them to anything you want. It's extremely fast to work this way, you can watch the video in realtime and lay down all your markers in one go.
And, of course, you can move them, rename them or delete them anytime or as many time you wish. Vegas can also embed them in a rendered media file so you can import them in another app; Sweet.

yeah, that is tbh a perfect solution as far as labelling goes. it even lets you colour code! but the only problem there is that you can't skip automatically to the next 'marker'.

well, you 'sort of' can.. if you select a clip on the 'marker' track, you can 'select' the next/prev ones with alt-left/alt-right. then if you quickly tap END then HOME the cursor will reposition itself to the beginning of the newly selected clip (home will move the cursor to either the beginning of the selected clip or the start of the edit, depending which one it would pass first.. thus if the cursor was already before the clip it would just go to 0.. tapping end first makes sure the cursor is after the clip)

but yes that's not much of a workaround! :nutter: personally, i'm happy with 10 markers, but i can imagine people wanting more for various reasons, (for instance, if laying out a set of tracks for a CD in one long strip, you may have more than 11 tracks and want markers for each), or certainly with the new QT support. some way of adding new markers that aren't the 'quick-dial' 0-9 type, yet can still be navigated between with the already-in-place '-' '=' shortcut keys.

and names! and a list!

possible implementation

perhaps just to the left of the 'NEW FILTERS' button at the top right there could be a little round 'M' markers button; click on it and a menu pops up (like when you drag to add a new filter) but it contains a scrollable list of all the markers, named as you have named them. click one and you are moved to it; perhaps it is also 'selected' and becomes the active thing in the properties panel, whereby you can name it, delete it, move it.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
