Ok I know tracktion already has a groove quantize feature, but I am referring to a different function with the same name.
I.e. Create a groove quantize template from an existing midi-file, for instance from a midi file created by a rex file, or dragged in from something like microdicer - so that u could easily match up your own drum hits etc. to the ones in the rex file. In order for this to be implemented Tracktion would probably need a way to set a specific grid as in this feature request: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=82640
first.
I've mentioned this a few times, but it's a feature i really like in reason - & have seen it applied in sx & think it is rather spiffing.

I would use that feature (I used to use it in Cubase)

Actually, this could tie in with the beat-slicing FR. The "slices" could be used to create a groove template also.

It ties in because at the moment the grid snapping feature is dependent on the zoom level. what i'm proposing is that the snap could be (optionally?) independent of the zoom level & set to correspond to a groove template? taken from a midi file. For instance in sx (i believe) u can set the snap function to correspond to the groove template - so that with snap turned on when u nudge a note if will move to the next position determined by the groove template you are using. Does that make sense? it's a while since i've seen sx in action, but i can remember being impressed when a mate used this function to almost automatically line up some drum hits to correspond to a rex file - so he was recreating the loop in effect, but using his own sounds.

doesn't logic (& possibly sx also) allow one to do the same thing, but ripping the template from a sliced audio file also?

I know i'm posting a few FR's, don't want it to seem like i'm down on tracktion, it is in fact the opposite - I believe that with some 'workflow' type additions like this it could be an extremely powerful app, whilst keeping the simplicity which attracted it to me in the first place. I jumped ship on steinberg when sx came out, theough I have used it in collaborations, & never really liked the look of cakewalk stuff - so i'm fervently hoping that tracktion can become the killer app that it has the potential to become.

ok - i made a mistake - with clip quantise turned on the notes do snap to the requisite quantise setting - do u know i've never actually used that function, just quantized groups of notes afterwards? So the feature i'm proposing is not as fundamental a change as I believed - it's just the ability to extract a quantise grid from a midi file/sliced audio file, save it as a user defined groove or quantize template & then apply it.
