BR? Midi Loop Recording

When I enable 'Overlay New Clips Containing Newly Recorded Midi' & Have Loop enabled it doesn't overlay it - it proceeds to merge any new midi - unless the new clip is of a different length. So, if I turn loop off & record slightly over, or under the length, it does indeed overlay, is this how it should work, or is it a bug?
the same thing happens with replacing clips - in loop mode it just merges.

see it as a feature. it's nice to not constantly switch between the different recordingmodes, just because you want to add some notes to a clip you've just recorded.
