[EDIT: to add a note about exclusion of US Sales tax]
I think I have got this summary right, based on several postings here. (If not, let me know and I'll revise it as needed).
NB: The "Sam Ash" retail prices do not include Sales Tax. You may need to add a % depending on where you live.
Registered T1 user in USA:
T1 cost - $80, upgrade to T2 (no additional plugins) - $20, total $100
Purchase of T2 boxed - $150 (Sam Ash), less $60 rebate, total investment $170
NFR T1 user in USA:
T1 cost - $0, no upgrade to T2
Purchase of T2 boxed - $150 (Sam Ash), less $30 rebate, total investment $120
Brand new user, in USA:
Purchase of T2 boxed - $150 (Sam Ash)
(using UK prices as an example)
Registered T1 user, in Rest of World:
T1 cost - £50, upgrade to T2 - £12, total £62 ($100)
Purchase of T2 boxed - £130 (Turnkey, UK), no rebate, total investment £180 ($300)
This is 76% more than the same user in the USA would pay.
NFR T1 user, in Rest of World:
T1 cost - $0, no upgrade to T2
Purchase of T2 boxed - £130 (Turnkey, UK), no rebate, total investment £130 ($220)
This is 83% more than the same user in the USA would pay.
Brand new user, in Rest of World:
Purchase of T2 boxed - £130 (Turnkey, UK), total investment £130 ($220)
This is 46% more than the same user in the USA would pay.

HTH
And Kiwiboyus - yes, you are right about the international rebates. This, too, is a WIP.

Things like this (international pricing) always wind me up. I mean it's written by a Brit living in London AFAIK. WTF?! Although I am aware that this is all WIP

The example showing that the NFR user who invested in T1 and ended up paying $50 more than the "freeloader" who didn't bother to invest in T1 is simply bizaare.
A very strange way to treat customers in fact, but I suspect that Mackie simply didn;t think it through
Shocking too, how much more we stand to pay in the UK than our friends in the US.

@headquest, It was Mackie's choice and decision to offer a free NFR version.
Those who accepted what Mackie generously offered for marketing reasons are not freeloaders.
They simply accepted what was offered.
That US-vs-THEM war finally died down.
Please don't start it up again.
That will serve no good purpose for this online community.
Respectfully,
chim
edit: FWIW, I also question the pricing as it is set up with regards to total T investment for NFR users in some scenerios being less that paid T1 users, but that is on Mackie - not the NFR users.

I was actually being ironic - hence the "inverted commas"chimmy wrote:@headquest, It was Mackie's choice and decision to offer a free NFR version.

I think that the attitude of "registered users" vs "NFR" users has been an absolute disgrace which has reflected very badly on some forum users. So I hear where you're coming from!
Reading some of the threads this weekend I actually felt ashamed to be a "registered user" myself
I trust that clears up the misunderstanding. Sometimes I'm too naughty/ironic for my own good!
Respectfully, also, Andy

I don't believe headquest meant to cause any offence, which is probably why he enclosed the term 'freeloader' in quotes.

My understanding is that the Turnkey price includes VAT. The Sam Ash price quoted, on the other hand, does not include sales tax.headquest wrote: Shocking too, how much more we stand to pay in the UK than our friends in the US.
If I go to GC to buy T2 this weekend I'll be paying an extra 9% over and above the US price shown above. If I skip over the state line to Chicago, I'll bump that up to around 11%
Equally, if you knock 17.5% of VAT off of the 130UKP price you get a value closer to 110 UKP (or about 200 USD at todays exchange). So the difference is nearer 25%.
Now factor in teh fact that the exchange rate is *way* adrift from the normal of about 1.6USD to the pound, and you have basically a comparable price.
And if Turnkey wont let you haggle the price down, they aint the Turnkey they used to be.

Where's the 'haggle' button on their website?

Hi
I own Digital Performer, Logic with the EXS sampler. and Pro tools. I used to own 2 music stores in Calidornia and 4 Recording studios as well. I have had 2 heart attacks, 3 TIAs, 2 Strokes, a quintuple bypass, and 3 corotid artery surgeries. I am now on disability. I have little income and therefore cannot afford to spend much. I can buy Logic Express 7 for $150.00so I cannot see spending $130.00 to get T2 which doesnt even have the ability to use the banks of sounds in the synths I own. Whoever I talked to at Mackie just blew me off. Mackie just lost many more customers who will and have contacted me.
