I may well be going mental (too much ale last night), but I'm certain there used to be a 'Render Track and Add' option on the track page?

1 - select track
2 - click 'render track' button in properties panel
3 - chosse either render option (project directory or specific file)
4 - dialogue box appears with 3 options ... 'replace' ... 'add rendered tracks' ... 'cancel' ... choose the middle one ...
