well, considering the fact that virtual instruments weren't possible with the VST standard until version 2, i'd say that was a big ol' greasy yes.

What happened to the old VST-incompability thread? Is there a list of incompatible plugins somewhere? Like ALL of the Waves plugs if I'm not mistaken...

I thought the problem was due to the special "shell" architecture of the Waves plugins, so that the same code can be used on all platforms and plugin types.

I haven't worked much with waves in the past (on the mac anyways), but tried some demos a couple of weeks ago. Crashed Tracktion instantly.

That's another thing that could be fixed, I think. It's a drag if a plugin scan crashes your host, and you have no idea which plug did it. Surely there must be some way to keep the plug from dragging the host with it down the drain?

Not really. If the plug wants to overwrite RAM that doesn't belong to it, it's pretty much free to do so.
