Hi guys, anyone using Tracktion 2 and had problems playing back midi sounds? I have just bought new sound card Quattro M-Audio and Tracktion 2 and have set up audio fine but can't hear my midi sounds. I can see that the signal is being received but won't play back.

Can anyone help please - dying to get going and be fully operational.

Any help would be great thanks :o

yeah I have enable the in / out of the midi device and have tried a few things but with no joy. I have clicked on them to enable and the signal is there but not sound when playback on.

Anything else I can try?

Are these sounds on your soundcard? If so, you need to click on the track, and change the destination output for this track (bottom right of screen next to transport controls) from "default audio output" to "default midi output".

Before you do this, check the settings tab to make sure that your midi devices are enabled.

Hope that helps!

HI Alan,

Thanks for taking time to comment. I think I have tried that already but will try again. I am using a M-Audio Keyboard controller with it connected to my quattro sound card. Keyboard hasn't got sounds of its own but sound card should do.

I am thinking maybe I need another midi cable from keyboard to sound card - just don't know. I am really new to this. I can hear the click track coming through once I enable as Midi output track but not midi very frustrating.

Will try and get back to you. thanks

Have you tried playing a VSTi, rather than midi sounds? VSTi's are much more flexible, and usually sound better IMHO.

yeah, that's what i was going to suggest. try putting a VSTi filter at the end of the track armed for midi input; if you don't have any, T2 comes with a bunch of MDA ones, use the JX10 for example. if you get the sounds out of that (watch the meters) then you'll know the MIDI is getting where it should be. you're FAR better off using vsti's than using a general MIDI sound chip anyway. FAR FAR.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

You know what Alan I have managed to do it somehow! First I tried just activating the WS wavetable SW synth to see if that could playback. I did unmute the line in the sound devices part and it played back - much to my shock!! Then I loaded up my reason Adapted filter and activated the rewire system and now reason is play it through tractkion.
The result is some pretty cool sounding synth sounds. 8)

All sorted thanks alot for the help. I can now get cracking. Thanks again. The forum is the Great been trying to sort it out all week. :)
