Trouble with recording delays

I recently downloaded the Tracktion 2 demo, and am seriously thinking about buying the full version, I just need to work some things out first. I'm having trouble with a delay when I try to record into Tracktion 2. When using other software such as Overdub! or Windows Sound Recorder, I have no problem, there is no delay between when (for example) I hit a note on my guitar or piano and when it is actually recorded and played through my speakers. I only have 300 ms delay when using Tracktion. I sort of understand the concept of latency and have tried adjusting it, but I haven't been able to solve the problem. This seems to happen on all of my audio devices. Someone please help me! :help:

300ms of latency is a lot! Generally accepted figures seem to be that 10ms is a minimum for MIDI playback, and lower still for playing guitar through amp sims..

Latency is down to your drivers.. I gather you are using windows? What soundcard are you using? If its designed for audio recording it will probably have ASIO drivers: you need to make sure these are properly installed and selected in Tracktion's settings page.. if you have a consumer card it probably won't have ASIO drivers, so you will need to use a 3rd party driver such as the KX project (for creative SBLive type cards) or ASIO4ALL (for most of the rest).

Once you have some ASIO drivers installed and selected you will be able to sdjust latency far lower than 300ms, though the exact figures depend on your hardware..
